When has Meeks ever played with a guy who can consistently command double teams? NEVER. Iggy is a nice player, but he's no star. In Los Angeles he'll be playing with not one, not two, not three, but four guys that command double teams in Kobe, Dwight, Pau, and Nash. He's gonna get aton of open looks. Last season in Philly he shot 37 percent from the 3 point line and that was with far less talent. He should shoot at least 40 percent from the 3 point line.

Again, no one in the NBA gets a "ton of open looks". You simply don't watch basketball much if you think that's the case. No one on the Heat last year got "a ton of wide open shots". Moving on though, it doesn't matter who you play with, you either hit your shots or you don't. For a guy who has to be branded a "shooting specialist", because he simply can't do anything else, shooting barely 40 percent from the field and 36.5 percent from 3 land is pretty crappy.

What are you talking about dude? Players on the Heat get aton of open looks all the time. That's why they won the championship because they had several key role players knock down timely shots. Chalmers, Battier, Cole, Jomes, etc. Again playing with the guys I mentioned Meeks will get plenty of open looks just like the Miami guys did he's just gotta know them down. And again who was he playing with in Philly? No one that can command double teams. That won't be the case with the Lakers. I could careless about Meeks overall FG percentage. He mostly shoots 3's so it's gonna be low. He shoots 37 percent from 3 which is pretty solid.

Moving past the "wide open looks" crap, because there's no point in arguing something so dumb.. Meeks was 70th in the NBA last year in 3 point percentage out of guys that qualified for the leaderboard.

For a shooting specialist, that's awful. A shooting specialist who is average at shooting.. that's what the Lakers have with Meeks. I hope for the Lakers' sake he drastically improves this year.

The entire argument you are having is a pointless argument. You are saying that nobody gets open looks in the NBA which is not a true statement. However, I would be happy if that did turn out to happen with Meeks because that would be exactly what the Lakers want from Meeks. The Three Point shoot is secondary to the offense. The offense will be fast break, early offense, pick and roll and post up in the half court. You want the spacing, that's the key. If somebody is always on Meeks, then that means that the Lakers are getting what they want. They are seeing two guys trying to play the Pick and Roll with no help defense. That's what you want. If the Lakers see a steady diet of that, they are going to beat a lot of teams because you can't defend Howard/Gasol and Nash on the pick and roll with two guys and you can't use help defense on Kobe which means you can't double him up. Even now, there is no player in the NBA who can stop Kobe one on one. That means that the Lakers are going to be successful on the offensive side of the ball. Meeks is key if his man comes off and tries to help. That is when it's important for him to shoot well from the outside. That forces teams to honor him and creates spacing on the floor.

In addition, Meeks did shoot 41% from the floor and 37% from the line last year but in 10-11 seasons, he shot 43% from the Field and 40% from the three. In 09-10 he shot 44% from the field and 38% from the three. Those are respectable numbers from an outside shooter who apparently, according to those who watched him, never got open looks.

What are you 5 JT?

The season will soon be here and we will then see exactly how good or bad the Lakers are.

Ignore him. Dude is clearly trolling. I refuse to believe anybody can be that dumb. He just wants attention.

Lot of wording to say Meeks is an average shooter.. and that's the only thing he can do at all. Honestly, this thread is probably the most he's ever been talked about by anyone involved or a fan of basketball. The Lakers probably needed to fill out the bench, and saw a guy they could have on the cheap that can play 10 minutes a night and if he gets hot now and then, hit a couple shots for them.

He may be but the percentages are far from horrible, as was the argument made earlier in the thread. I mean, we are talking about a Bench player, not a starter. We just need the guy to step up and make wide open shots. It's not as if he would be the first option for the Lakers anyway. Steve Nash shoots 58% from the Field and Kobe is a career 45% shooter as well. Maybe he will be average but I suspect he will have much better numbers this year because he is going to get much better looks then he has while in Philly or Milwaukee. Of course, that is just my opinion and time will certainly tell if I am right or wrong there.

She's a gold digger, but who cares? Kobe is not gonna let that effect him on the court.

He's gonna go out there and do what he does which is be one of the best players in the world.
