ESPN: In defeat, Cowboys learned more about Dak Prescott

ARLINGTON, Texas -- With a tornado warning forcing people to shelter in place at AT&T Stadium on Sunday night, Dak Prescott walked onto the field roughly two hours after his first playoff loss. With his bow tie, it was easy for the fans to know who it was, and they applauded in kind. As he hugged some friends and spent about 30 minutes under the giant digital board, talking, what must have been going through his head?

Prescott did everything he possibly could to deliver the Dallas Cowboys one of the most improbable playoff wins in their history, only to see a 51-yard field goal veer back between the goal posts to give the Green Bay Packers a 34-31 win.

In one playoff game, the Cowboys learned more about Prescott, who threw for three touchdowns and completed 24 of 38 passes for 302 yards, than they did in 16 regular-season games.

As good as Prescott was in the regular season, with 23 touchdown passes and four interceptions, 3,667 passing yards, six rushing touchdowns and 13 wins, he was better on Sunday because of what was at stake.

Yesterday a star was born. He proved his mettle. Now get the man a damn D. No more bull jive, Jerry. No more cutting corners and swazzy media sessions. Button it up, and go out and tell McClay and Vital to revamp the D. Dak, Zeke and the Oline are enough to draft around (i.e. enough for our franchise to lean heavy on D selections in, both, FA and Draft).

Go after D for the next three years. Do not lose McClay and do not lose Vital. Keep Rod. Give him some players instead of these scrubs before he loses his fire after being second fiddle to Linehan's O.

Do this and we may be great again. Good stuff @SDCowboy85 :)

This game had a chance to be making Legends with a historic comeback.......needed a few breaks that just didnt happen ..........but the light is bright ...need some progression by some players and some continued smart draft work.........
 
With the exception of a few bad throws he played great and well enough to win. The defense and the biased NFL and its one sided officiating didn't let his rookie story continue. They had to continue their love fest of Rogers.
 
Only if right! A few dumb penalties and a slow start killed us. We all know the defense could of played better. It's such a hard thing for me to watch another year go bye. But I am very happy where the team is headed for the future.
 
I'm curious to see how good Dak is going to get? He could end up being an all time great!

Have to go all in and hope Jaylon is the truth as well. If Jerry provides a Defense that has potential to turn the other team over with pressure, we could be looking at a 5 year run here.

I'm not sure there's a ceiling for Dak. As more time goes by, and the more that gets asked of him, the better he gets.
 
After Dak led the comeback, even in defeat, I was more convinced than ever that he's the real deal. He had an outstanding rookie campaign but I wanted to see how he would perform when the game is played on an entirely different, much more difficult level which is what the playoffs are. Even though he had a great rookie season, realistically he didn't have to take nearly as many chances as most QBs do with the running game we had. Of course that's no knock on him as you can't blame a guy who is simply benefiting from the great play around him. It's just that it left some questions unanswered. He answered them yesterday. In the face of extreme adversity when the pressure was at it's highest he didn't wilt. Quite the opposite in fact. He was not rattled or overwhelmed by the situation and led the team back from a huge deficit. To me he proved his mettle yesterday and that the future is indeed bright with him.
 
New, very good, talented, franchise QB for the Dallas Cowboys.

Same result on the field of play in the playoffs.

The only thing that's changed is now its Dak Prescott carrying this steaming pile of an owner and coaching staff instead of Tony Romo.

At least for now. Rookie contracts do expire.

But Dak has a bachelors Degree in Information Systems and a Masters Degree in workforce leadership.

So he may be smart enough to figure it out.

FO needs to get it going. And quickly. The clock is ticking.

JJ squandered Romo's career by neglecting the Def., he can't possibly do it with Dak can he?
