ESPN: Jason Garrett: 'A lot of different timetables' for Tony Romo's return

This season is gonna come down to the dak show. Those expecting tony back in 4 weeks are going to be disappointed. And no, I'm not a doctor but I've had this injury.

You have to figure after what happened last season with Romo re injuring his collarbone he isn't seeing the field until the bone in his back is completely healed. Wouldn't surprise me if we don't see him at all in 2016.

Not surprised you taking the glass have empty view. Why would you change now?

I won't argue that but it doesn't change the fact that Garrett isn't going anywhere any time soon.

If Dak plays respectably and Romo is able to play at least 4-5 games anything less than 7 wins will get Garrett fired.

This would matter if every human being healed the same and you were a professional athlete with world class health care professionals monitoring your every move.

I'll take the wait and see approach before I start predicting the future. Seems to a lot be of that going on around here.

Danny White and Troy Aikman both ended their careers because of injuries. It will be the same with Tony. Roger and Dandy Don got out while they were still at the top.

Speaking of aikmans end... The year 2000.

What Jerry did to that team after 1995 was shameful. They regressed year after year and I'll never forget starting 3-0 in 1999. Then Irvin gets hurt and 8-8.

You could actually see that team be destroyed

There are a hundred guys posting on this forum that were in the Army or Marine Corps. If you or your First Sergeant had a small fracture in his back, would you (or him) have missed one day of training? Would you have missed a deployment? Or would you have been told to suck it up and keep taking Motrin?

There is a good percentage of the Armed Forces working through more painful things than Romo has on a daily basis. I think most of the freakout here is pessimism that was waiting for an excuse or the lure of Dak turning into the next big thing. Either way, Romo isn't going to be out very long.

Seriously if there's a snow balls chance of course Garrets going to do anything he can to keep the giants uncertain. Its not about what we prefer

I went a month with a thoracic compression fracture before I even went to the doctor. It only really bothered me at night after sleeping for a few hours my back would lock up.

Tony is crazy, he could be back week 1 !
He will take pain killers, and play before it is healed, if they let him, or if they want him to.
I want to see dak play 1st 2-3 games, and if not good then go back to tony, who might be ready at that point.
If Dak plays good, then just go with him and let tony heal up proper.

I don't know about that. The eye test has passed just like it did for Romo. Dak will play in this league. He's going to lose some games, yes, but I bet the kid wins more than he loses.

Jerry knows it and so does Jason. He may not be ready yet so I'm betting 4-3 or 5-2 when Romo is eligible.

Dude Dak is going to struggle. Name one precedent of a rookie without a dominant defense to cone in and win a bunch of games. Even Peyton Manning went 3-13 his rookie season. Aikman went 1-15. He may show flashes but he is not going to do what everyone in here is saying.

Different amount of talent around him here. He'd struggle on those teams too. This team is setup to allow a rookie to still win games. The strong defense is just like having a strong o-line, running game and top 5 WR in that it means the rookie doesn't have to win games by himself.

I really hope we have higher standards. But also note if Dak does well Garret may be anointed the Dak whisperer and once again cement himself here.

It's not a popular answer, but the reality is no one knows. Romo's history suggests he will beat any timeline, but it seems unrealistic to think he's out there for the opener. He's also older, so his body might heal differently, and you have to wonder if the team will be more conservative than in years past given his mounting injuries.

It's also the start of the season we are talking about here. In years past, he has rushed back to try to salvage a season slipping away (2015) or keep a promising season alive. I don't know if it's wise to be in such a hurry at the start of the season. If we were to open the season 2-2 with Dak, Romo could have comfortably waited his 6 weeks and inherit a team that isn't really any worse off. I could see the sirens sounding in the Romo home if we open up 0-2.

Roger had a lot of concussions over the years. He probably didn't want scrambled brains and decided to enjoy life after football instead.
