Cowboys' Jason Garrett to discuss Zeke Elliott's play on Sunday: 'it was not up to our standard'

..."One of the things we preach to our team on both sides of the all when there is a turnover is everybody's involved," Garrett said. "If you're an offensive player, you become a defensive player on a fumble or an interception. Zeke is one of the most natural competitors that I've ever been around. He loves to play. He loves to practice. I think we've seen that through his first year playing and those two plays are not indicative of the kind of competitor that he is and we have to get addressed."

Elliott finished with a career-low 8 yards on nine carries as the Broncos bottled up the Cowboys running game and forced them to rely on the passing game to get back into the game.

Garrett said frustration could have been a reason for Elliott's effort but that was not an excuse."

I'm amazed that while all the hate is being tossed at Dak, Zeke, Dez, and Garrett, we tend to forget the defense.

Trevor Siemien lit us up. And I'm not even sure I'm spelling his name right. The guy may end up having a heck of a career, but this was still a total team loss.

It's because nobody expects anything of the defense.

While Zeke obviously had a horrible game Garrett/Linehan didn't call the necessary plays to take a little pressure off of him. While it was wrong of him to get frustrated the way he did... I can't exactly put all the blame on him because I think most star athletes would get frustrated when they kept getting sent into the waiting arms of 3 defenders.

I do.

I'm not expecting greatness. But I am asking for them to at least be respectable. They pulled that off last year.
You would hope they would be but they are a work in progress. I guess they've been mediocre for so long I just get used to it.

Zeke led a charmed life behind this line last year. Yesterday was his first dose of adversity. Hopefully he handles it better if it happens again.

Reminds me of a game against Michigan State (I think) in 2015 when he only had a few carries and called out his coaches to the media. I remember him being drilled in the pre-draft process about that.

While no defense for Zeke, Is JG looking in the mirror also......Coaching is expected also.
Laziest, We Don't Care Because This Is Not A Divisional Team Game coached game I have seen since preseason.

The only thing I give a pass to is the CB's were decimated all to hell and Jourdan Lewis was completely clueless on the field and I don't blame him.
He was like a guy off the couch.
The Safeties though...

I agree with Garrett's statement. It wasn't good and it's unacceptable. But, it's not the end of the world or the end of his career nor should he be labeled as a quitter. It was an immature and unprofessional thing to do, let's work to not have it happen again.

lol, Garrett sure has a lot to say about how the players aren't doing their jobs.
Haven't heard anything about it's his job and the other coaches responsibility to put the players in the best position to be successful. This was a total team collapse and the coaches are to blame as much as anyone.

Yeah, it's pretty hard to disagree with it. It was an embarrassing loaf when the team was down. I bet before the week is out we hear Elliott say something similar.
