And trying to be social justice warriors.

Fell off a cliff whrn that started happening on a sports network
I agree!!! Also all the hype for something." Oooh did you see that baseball batter scratch his nuts"? "This is going to be world shaking event for the WNBA"!!!.ZZZZZZZ!!! ESPN should have left some sports alone. When they first started they were cool because you got odd stuff like Candien Football or Australian Rules Football...They booked Boxing almost every week even a ESPN Title belt... ESPN also too much computer graphics just like Hollywood passing a garbage movie off with CGI effects instead of a decent story and script.

is CNN and MTV next? and i dont mind MTV being NEXT on the layoff hit list cause MTV is boring these days
You are so right!! What does reality shows have to do with music???? They won't show music videos and that's what got MTV success.

Because a lot of these people have no idea what they're talking about.

You mean I can't watch 1 episode per week of Game of Thrones AND still watch sports?

In all seriousness, I think ESPN started down the wrong path when they filled their entire lineup with various talk shows. All rehashing the same garbage.

Interesting you mention those. You'd think ESPN, CNN and MTV would be worlds apart -- sports, news and music -- but they're all pretty much the same.

Here's an example.
It's draft day
I just flipped to the NFL network and they are going from team site to team site discussing draft needs, etc.
Then I turn to ESPN and Stephen A et al are talking about social issues .

They could have kept some popularity and viewership if they kept the original programming such as the sports drama Playmakers on air. But apparently they caved to the pressure of the NFL just to have the right to pay the NFL a whole lot more money. That show could have pioneered the genre instead of running the same Sports shows over and over and over. Original and exclusive programming is one of the things that is making Netflix and Hulu so popular.

That's a little unfair because the fact that the NFL Network is dedicated to that one sport.

Maybe I should clarify...
regarding the NFL draft, the ESPN was talking about social issues, single parent homes, African American educational disadvantages, drug use, etc. Those subjects are worth talking about somewhere and sometime, but come on....it's draft day and that is a sports network supossedly discussing the draft..

Netflix and Hulu are a waste, except for hulus new show handmaids tale. And doesn't mean I'll subscribe to hulu

ESPN is no more the sports network I grew up loving. It seems it is both politics and that of favoritism. That the network is playing. In laying off those people. Hope though they land on their feet again.
