IRVING, Texas -- For the first time, the forgotten man in the Dallas Cowboys' running back rotation dropped hints of frustration.
"If we get those two guys rolling, man, we should be OK," Tashard Choice said when discussing the importance of establishing the run Sunday against the San Diego Chargers.
Those two guys are Marion Barber and Felix Jones. Choice is the Cowboys' third back, which has made him the odd man out since Barber and Jones got healthy.
Choice ran for a career-high 92 yards on eight carries in the Oct. 11 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, scoring a 36-yard touchdown that gave the offense life after a three-point first half. Since then, he has a total of 16 carries for 108 yards in seven games.
The vast majority of Choice's carries in the last two months have come in the Razorback, the Cowboys' version of the Wildcat formation.
"It's all right. It's cool," said Choice, whose primary role is as the Cowboys' third-down back. "It's a chance to get the ball in my hands, but you only get so many opportunities in that formation. I would rather carry the football regularly, but that's how I've got to get it."
The Cowboys called the formation the Razorback because it was designed to take advantage of Jones' dynamic open-field ability. Yet every play out of the formation has been a Choice carry. The Cowboys haven't used the Razorback for more than a few plays in any game.
"We've got plays, but we've got to run them," said Choice, who averages 5.6 yards per carry. "We've got to call them. You can only do what they call."
