IRVING, Texas -- For the first time, the forgotten man in the Dallas Cowboys' running back rotation dropped hints of frustration.

"If we get those two guys rolling, man, we should be OK," Tashard Choice said when discussing the importance of establishing the run Sunday against the San Diego Chargers.

Those two guys are Marion Barber and Felix Jones. Choice is the Cowboys' third back, which has made him the odd man out since Barber and Jones got healthy.

Choice ran for a career-high 92 yards on eight carries in the Oct. 11 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, scoring a 36-yard touchdown that gave the offense life after a three-point first half. Since then, he has a total of 16 carries for 108 yards in seven games.

The vast majority of Choice's carries in the last two months have come in the Razorback, the Cowboys' version of the Wildcat formation.

"It's all right. It's cool," said Choice, whose primary role is as the Cowboys' third-down back. "It's a chance to get the ball in my hands, but you only get so many opportunities in that formation. I would rather carry the football regularly, but that's how I've got to get it."

The Cowboys called the formation the Razorback because it was designed to take advantage of Jones' dynamic open-field ability. Yet every play out of the formation has been a Choice carry. The Cowboys haven't used the Razorback for more than a few plays in any game.

"We've got plays, but we've got to run them," said Choice, who averages 5.6 yards per carry. "We've got to call them. You can only do what they call."

Choice sounds hungry to me, not as though he is complaining. As a fan, I still don't think Barber or Jones is 100%. That being said, I think Choice has earned the right to have a bigger work day.

Nothing wrong with Choice wanting more carries, I would not want a guy on the team who didn't but I saw nothing in the story that would indicate Choice is being anything less than a team player.

Love to see Choice get more carries. He is a playmaker and a leader...he needs to be on the field more.

Actually, I don't think you'll see anyone seriously respond that way to what TC said. Rather, how the heck did McMahon get frustration out of that?

Is TC eager to play? You bet! But is he spilling frustration? Uh, not that I see from his comments.

actually.. don't know if this was mentioned but Choice actually looked frustrated for the first time in a game.. last Sunday.. on the sidelines.. and NOT just with the refs initially messing up his fumble call

Choice words: runningback resigned to diminished role

Tashard Choice advocates that the Cowboys run the ball against San Diego.

He also sounds like a man resigned to the fact that Marion Barber and Felix Jones will do the running.

"We've got to run the football, man,'' Choice said. "That's when we're most effective. When we don't, we don't look too good in the outcome.

"As long as they get those two guys rolling, we should be OK.''

The decline is dramatic. Choice carried the ball 44 times for 225 yards in the first five games. He has 16 carries for 108 yards in the last seven. He has gained 13 yards or less on the ground in six of his last seven games. About the only time he runs the ball is out of the Razorback.

"It's allright, it's cool,'' Choice said of the formation. "It's a chance for me to get the ball in my hands. But you only get so many opportunities with that formation.

"I always want to carry the football regular. But that's how I've got to get it, so that's cool.''

Well he said "hint" of frustration and I think it's true. If he WASN'T frustrated to not be getting the ball more, I'd like Choice a lot less.
