Cutting Barber would be foolish. Give the guy another year. Heck what's the worst thing that happens, he gets hurt and Choice takes his role? Keep him around.

should of never gave such an unproven RB so much money. GM jerry never fails.

Didn't you want us to trade up for McFadden?

Jerry Jones told reporters at the Senior Bowl that money won't be a determining factor on whether Barber will be back next season. We'll see if the owner feels the same way when it comes time to give Barber, who is due a base salary of $3.8 million, a $4 million roster bonus this spring.
That is a lot of money to give a RB who might not start next year and only get 12 or 13 touches a game.

Dumb premise. Why cut him - trades do occasionally occur.

I don't know if he has value. Big contract and little production usually doesn't find a trade partner.

That said, Barber has a spot in Dallas. Go back to being the closer and let him run wild in the later part of the game.

I say bring him back for 1 more year. Keep the 3 headed monster in tact but reduce Barber's role to mainly the closer. If he flourished in that role, maybe you keep him. If his production continues to diminish, you cut him after next season when there may be another salary cap in place and cutting him may actually save cap space at that point. The only reason to for him not to be Cowboy next year, when there is no cap, is if somebody is willing to overpay for him. If nothing else keep him around until someone's starter goes down in training camp or preseason.

As long as it works with the cap, it doesn't matter.

If it would prevent other moves, then we talk but until then I think Barber has a solid spot in Dallas.

I'm sure someone will give us a 3rd..its not like hes not producing. His YPC is 4.4 which is the same as Peterson, but its Choices turn. Barber has to move on. Later 3rd early 4th don't settle for anything less.

The same reasons that we don't want is the same reasons people won't give up a 3rd. With all due respect to Barber but he is what he is. He's an injury plagued, slow, high contract running back.

No one is going to trade for Barber and pay his $4 mil roster bonus.

So, no one will trade for Barber until after Jerry pays his $4 mil bonus.

Maybe Barber will take a paycut to stick around.

If not, Barber may get cut and lose $7.8 mil. I doubt if he gets more than $1 mil plus incentives from any other team.

Why would a team trade for him if they knew we wanted to unload him? Sign him for a lower contract and give up nothing in compensation. A team isn't going to want to take on his contract if Dallas doesn't want it. When you can run a three headed tailback group, the value of backs to your team isn't akin to Emmitt and Barry Sanders.

There are plenty of backs out there that can run short yardage plays and play special teams at a tenth the price of Barber. It's just the cruel nature of the business. A guy like Shaun Alexander can go from league MVP numbers to watching his phone not ring in a calendar year.

Wow. In barely two years time he went from being the guy who had to be starting, and getting more carries, to the guy people want to trade or cut.

How the mighty have once again fallen.

i don't know. we already gave Barber the big bonus so it isn't like keeping him is going to break us. We simply need to go into next year with an open competition for snaps.
Per the article, he's due a $3.8M base salary and a $4M roster bonus if he's still on the team this spring (1 June???). That's a lot of moolah for just about anyone. You'd better be getting a lot of production for $7.8M!

This is a "what have you done for me lately" business, and Barber's production has been abysmal the last 2 seasons. He should be traded for a pick...any pick, or cut.

Barber is wearing on my nerves. I liked him better when he didn't celebrate every 3 yard run like he just scored a TD.

Emotional leader my ***. He is quickly becoming a joker with his celebrating on every play.

This is why there is a chance he will not be here next year. Is he worth $7.8 next year.....no one is going to trade for that salary. Like him or hate him, the $$ and his production will dictate if he is here next year.

No i wanted CJ.

Well, we all to have to let go of our pet cats at some point in time.

We still have potentially made out well with Felix for a late first round RB - I think he rushes for 1300 yards next year and gets another 500 through the air. I do think he is also going to be a special player in the NFL.

We just need to upgrade the OL and get Felix in space.

I think Barber could play a useful role in Dallas but that albatross of a contract just hangs in the background. Plus, there is Garrett's infatuation with him that needs to be nipped in the bud.

Not sure about this. Yes, it would save Jerry money, but how would it make us a better team in 2010? Nor do I see Choice as a goal line hammer.
Neither was Smith, but he found his way in the endzone plenty. When given the opportunity at the goal line, Choice has produced. I'm not bashing Barber either because I still want him around, just saying that you don't have to be a power back to get into the endzone often.

He has no trade value with that contract and his durability issue combined with the wear and tear on his body over the last three seasons.

You put on the film and he's already showings signs of slowing down.

He isn't going to get much better than what he is even if he's 100% healthy.

And RB's are a dime a dozen in the game today.

Choice has the trade value.

Power running game between the tackles in the red zone. We don't have one right now.

The Cowboys brass was talking to Ben Tate down at the Senior Bowl. He's a Shonn Greene type of runner. Sort of like a combo of Barber and Choice in one guy.
