Just say no to Taylor Mays.

He was not just bad this year, he was awful. He was repeatedly torched and looked a lot like RW31 when he was scared to hit folks plus unable to cover anyone. USC got better when Mays when out of the game for stretches.

We have Mike Hamlin in house btw.
Completely agree.

But say yes to Mike Iupati. Over 800 snaps in his career and didn't give up a sack once. He's a pretty big guy also that can move well.

Let's hope Brewster can help next season, I am confident Free will become a good starter.

I believe he is referring to when he tore up a knee with Chicago and he missed I think the better part of two seasons. Isnt that how he ended up in Dallas in the first place? Bears cut him after they determined he wasnt worth the cap space with his injury history?

yup.
he was a first round pick who washed out with injuries, then got here and worked his way into a top notch RT before the broken leg.

broken legs aren't exactly recurring.

Second quibble: hamlin is OK and so is sensabaugh so I doubt the Boys really do anything at safety. Sure we can do better but look how long it took to get this far.

I think Hamlin was OK after he got a job threat of being cut in an uncapped year. He blew *** last year and most of this year. His play didn't start picking up until the last half of the season.

in Hamlin's defense last year he played very banged up all year. we had so many other safeties out that he felt he had to play. so he was awful but he gets a bit of a pass from me.

he is still a decent safety but he is paid like a stellar one.

i like sensabaugh more.

Agreed on both counts, although Sensabaugh is only decent too. Just slightly more decent. I'm done with the Hamlin Experience.

OL/S/ILB would be my priorities this year. Get a mid round WR to groom.

Drew Boylhart [thehuddlereport.com] says that Mays is an atrocious player. After fooling some team into drafting him, after he performs like superman at the combine, he'll be a major bust. Drew believes Mays is just a track guy playing football, but lacks true football skills. He doesn't have instincts, he's always slow to react, and he takes a lot of false steps. In fact, Drew says that he's so predicable that any team can fool him repeatedly.

This article is SPOT on! Also I would a d d KR/PR to the list. They need a WR/CB or RB who can add value in that area!

Also I found this while surfing the net....

http://cowboysblog.***BANNED-URL***/archives/2010/01/kiper-cowboys-will-take-bruce-campbell-o.html

Kiper seems to think Dallas will select a LT with the 27th pick. I wouldn't be mad.

Good article and agree with pretty much everything. Like a couple posters above me mentioned i would love for the team to get a top return man in the draft. A short elusive speedy returner would be a huge upgrade on this team.

I dont really see a lot of value at safety....since Berry and Thomas will be gone by the time we pick. Nate Allen is a 2nd round prospect and Van Eskridge is a solid sleeper pick (6-7 round).

I do feel we can get some nice depth at CB in this draft, or more specifically, immediately after. I am all for drafting AOA in 3-4 rounds. I like the following guys as UDFAs if they don't get taken in the 7th.....Patrick Stoudamire, Western Illinois...Rafael Priest, TCU...Walter McFadden, Auburn...Nick Sanders, TCU

I see no reason to spend one of our limited picks on a WR. We can potentially get Emmanuel Sanders (SMU), Tim Toone (Weber St.), or Jeff Moturi (UTEP) as undrafted free agents.

1 OG Mike Iupati
2 DT Lamarr Houston
3 OT Kyle Calloway
4 CB AOA
6 OT Jared Veldheer
7 DE Brandon Deaderick

UDFA
RB Deji Karim
WR Tim Toone
WR Jeff Moturi
OT Derek Hardman
OC Kevin Matthews
DL Ricardo Mathews
DL Andre Neblett
OLB Tim Knicky
CB Walter McFadden
CB Nick Sanders

Maybe I'm in the minority here but I like Sensabaugh A LOT. The first TD to Rice, he was stride for stride with him and in perfect position for the interception. Freak play, but whatever.

There have been more than just a few times that Sensabaugh ended up on a WR and the coverage was plenty good enough that the QB didn't look his way. The guy is very good in coverage. I want him here for the next 3-5 seasons.

I'm also in Hamlin's corner. People want a metric to judge all safety play by and if he isn't getting interceptions, then he automatically sucks. :bang2:

Hamlin is the quarterback of the secondary. Anyone recall the first Philly game where Jenkins gets his interception? Anyone remember who Jenkins credits that interception to? That's right, he said that Hamlin called out to watch the route despite Jackson looking very much like he was run blocking downfield.

Hamlin doesn't get interceptions, but he does get our bend but don't break secondary in the proper positions to make the tackles. Moreover, he's the last line of defense. Unless that ball comes across the line of scrimmage quacking, flapping its wings, and a Dept. of Wildlife tag on it's leg, I don't want my safety going for the interception and giving up 30 more yards of field position in the process if he misses.

Keep them both, but don't go after anyone in the draft.

Offensive line, we need a center like no other. I'm in the camp that says move Gurode over to LG. He gives up too many sacks entirely to be anything else than a below average center. Take a look at our offensive line ranking for negative running plays to the center of the line. Yeah, we rank 28th in the league for most allowed negative rushes in between the A gaps. That's a depressing situation that needs to be fixed and fixed immediately.

Gurode is a better center then he was at guard. I guess you have only been a boys fan for a couple of years.

Roy Williams to LB.

Gurode back to OG.

Bennett to OT.

Everyone wants to move these players. I do not get it. How about just get better at the positions they are best for or simply go away?

I like him a lot, too.

And you can't forget what Galloway and Mosley were saying just a couple of weeks ago, that Sensabaugh has a LOT of respect from both coaches and fellow players in that locker room. They said he brings leadership and a little bit of a tough guy attitude without being a thug or getting stupid penalties like Hamlin. It never hurts to have players with a little edge to them, especially on defense.

I am pretty much totally confident in our staff's ability to choose which players to keep and which to let go on defense, though. Hamlin's been the only possible mistake lately, and even he isn't a bad player, he's just overpaid. If the coaches think they can replace either of these guys with a cheaper FA or a draft pick or a young guy already on the team (like Mike Ham), I'm fine with it.

The entire secondary has had major issues making plays for the last two seasons. And the personnel has changed. I wonder what the problem is.

160992.jpg

The problem is that we have two starting safeties that we aquired through free agency. Teams that find safeties that can INT passes don't end up in free agency; teams always lock those guys up. Others are worth not locking up long term. That's the deal with Hamlin and Sensabeagh. This does not say that Hamlin and Sensabeagh aren't solid cover guys or strong against the run, but they are not ball hawks back there either. So when teams play Dallas they target these guys more, which limits the INTs you get from the CB position, and asures that the risk of INT from the S positions is all buy neutralized.

We wanted to stop the big plays and have. the price was getting safeties who are good at that but are not ball hawks- who gamble and give UP big plays.
