ESPN MacMahon: Witten shows 'afterburner stuff'

He still only managed to put up 17 points against a Skins D that the Giants absolutely shredded 6 days earlier. I wasn't too impressed.

The defense was great. Kudos to Wade for pitching a shutout with his guys. We are only dynamic ILB from going to another level, IMO. Someone like Farrior from Pittsburgh would be nice. I'd like a guy who is great in coverage, good run defender and decent blitzer. If such a player is on the board, I'd invest a first rounder there. It is too bad we haven't gotten to see much of JWill this year.

Are you kidding me with the "unimpressed" stuff? Think about it for a sec. History shows that no matter the record of the Skins or Cowboys, the games are always tough. It's a divsion rival. We see each other twice a year. 17-0 is a nice win. Not to mention a shutout.

well he was faster than Mr.Possession-receiver who should've blocked him to the TD on that play. Witten is simply the best there is at TE. period.

On a side note, I remember how badly I wanted Laron Landry coming out of college on the cowboys. He seemed so sound and had so much big play ability from the safety position and they were saying he could easily play either safety position for a while. He flat out sucks and this isn't like a new thing. Outside of a decent rookie season he has been a flat out disaster for them for about 3 years. Couldn't be happier.

Oh i've been arguing Witten as the best all around TE in the game for 4 years until my gums bleed as proud owner of 3 jerseys. But the best TE this season has been Antonio Gates. He might not even be a TE anymore. I think they should just call him a wideout for christsakes.

Gates is an outstanding receiver. If you want only that in a TE, he's your man. But you also need a TE to block. And Witten just excels in blocking while Gates is a lousy blocker. Witten is 4th in yds among TEs with no real good blocking TE in front of him. Ergo: best TE ;)

Yeah i'm with you mostly. Gates is decent at running some inference on the blocks actually...but overall that's why I said they should list Gates as a wideout. So Witten can be recognized as the best TE so we can stop having this discussion!

I can see how you could skim over it and think that.

I've been meaning to change the caption...."Ruler" is nice, but "Believe" has a nice ring to it these days.

Us brain dead shills need a badge of honor/shame too...
For the guys who don't follow the Cowboys, like your friend there, you should put the Name and No. of the player. Romo??? Are you kidding me? Witten doesn't look anything like Romo.

I think in Wade's scheme the DE's are asked to be more of the space eaters/run stoppers more so then pass rushers and the NT and the LBs are used to rush the passers.

I think the DE's get to one gap like everyone else. Luis Castillo had a 7 sack season under Wade in San Diego. That's all we need. Not Reggie White, but just someone who could take advantage of Ratliff being constantly double teamed and shifting coverage to Ware's side and be able to beat a one on one matchup and get 6 or 7 sacks a year and some pretty consistent pressure.

Did Castillo come off the field in passing situations, though? Or did he get to stay on the field like Ratliff does here?

Seems to me that Jay makes up for whatever sack numbers our DEs lack. I mean, this is the same group that led the NFL in sacks by a huge margin last year.

I think part of it is Ware being dinged early, Ellis being gone, and teams scheming more max protect to stop our rush... Which makes it easier for us to cover.

Roy deserves plenty of criticism during his tenure in Dallas, but he did a good job of blocking on that big play by Witten. Roy blocked one guy out of the play and then ran down field to try and block two more guys. He worked pretty hard on that play.
