“They were playing two-high defense and we had a combination route,” Cassel said. “I don’t think I threw it behind [Darren McFadden] or anything. [Hicks] just made a good play on the ball. He got it and unfortunately it turned out to be a pick-six. Sometimes those plays happen.”
Cassel played really well overall, but that play didn't just happen. The man was covered and he threw a dangerous pass, anyway.
I expect a play or two like this from a backup QB, but, honestly, his explanation here is annoying. That wasn't just a good play by a defender. It was a pass that never should have been thrown and it was the biggest play of the entire game. He ought to own that one.

Not defending a bad pass and an even worse decision.Damn right because we had given up only 20 points. What is so hard to grasp? You score on more TD and don't throw that horrendous pick and you win the football game. He doesn't need to be Aaron Rodgers to not throw such a back breaking interception.
Cassel looked like a backup QB on Sunday which was an upgrade. He was still lucky, that Dez TD was a ball you should never throw. Kind of reminded me of old school Tony Romo though.
Not defending a bad pass and an even worse decision.
But even Romo has done similar things with INTs and pick sixes in tight games. Revis in 2011, Pittsburgh in 2008, Denver & Green Bay 2013.
Romo had his share of mistakes, but also had stellar play in those games that's the difference. Against Denver he outplayed one of the greatest ever. Defense gave up 51 points. Agains Green Bay that was really Garrett's fault for refusing to run the ball when up 23. Against the Jets he made a terrible decision, but he still put us up 14 in the fourth. Our biggest lead against Philly was 7 and that was in the first.
It's Garrett speak he's picked it up quick
