Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News talked to several league scouts about the best way for the Giants to approach Sunday's playoff game in Dallas. There's a feeling across the league right now that the 13-3 Cowboys are vulnerable.
Everyone agrees that the Giants' defensive line will have to find a way to pressure Tony Romo. The last time the two teams met, Cowboys left tackle Flozell Adams neutralized Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora. They realize Umenyiora's a more dynamic pass rusher than Michael Strahan, but offensive line coach Tony Sparano has the ultimate respect for Strahan.
Cowboys right tackle Marc Colombo isn't a real athletic player, but he's a lot more powerful than most players realize. Look for the Cowboys to help their tackles with tight end Jason Witten early, and then open things up later in the first half.
Witten is a matchup nightmare. And it won't help that Giants linebacker Kawika Mitchell is out.
Our longtime pal Gary Myers of the Daily News thinks all the distractions in Dallas point to a 28-24 Giants win. And you have to love the story's headline:
"Dallas moans as Tony roams"
Myers also brings up the subject of Wade Phillips' job security. It's hard to imagine Jerry Jones firing someone after a 13-win season, but he didn't have any trouble running off Jimmy Johnson after he won two Super Bowls.
How far is Jerry willing to go in order to keep Jason Garrett? We may find out soon. I think Jones should stick with Phillips no matter what happens Sunday, but if the Cowboys lose, look for this to be an issue.
