Why does everyone assume the info came from VR? He could have called Lewis' agent and asked if he has had any contact with Dallas.

Plus why would any in Dallas admit to talking to him and risk a tampering charge?

I doubt his agent is the source. That would kill his marketing efforts. To me, it is simple that he's trying to use other team's as leverage. There would be no reason to discredit one of the leverage points.

Saying you don't have any interest is not that same as saying you have had full blown contact with the player or his representation.

It is all smoke and mirrors anyways. Even if violating the gag order would mean a trip to the Jones woodshed, this hardly would constitute it. In fact, information like this is sometimes intentionally leaked out to avoid charges of tampering or to judge the market.

Exactly.

How could Mosley know this when on-the-record statements are verboten?

I have a feeling it's okay to leak info as long as it's not about TO or something negative about Jerry.

Ding ding ding ding....

I love ray lewis in denver that would be great, please go to denver ray.

I agree I was just throwing another path of info out there....every little bit of info doesn't have to come from VR.

Yeah, JJT alluded to that in one of his blogs...

First, putting a gag order on coaches doesn't stop them from talking. It just stops them from talking publicly.

Secondly, most leaks come from agents, personal assistants, family members, tailors, marketing agents and players. So telling coaches to be quiet doesn't really slow the stream of information.

He may have been amused in the beginning, but like you said after stories like the house story and putting Stephen Jones in an awkward situation, he may feel the media speculation crossed the line.

The gag order isn't so significant that tidbits like these won't be leaking out of Valley Ranch. It's those spectacular stories that will piss off Jerry.

To me it all seems to be 'business as usual'.

The scandalous stories never had anyone talking on the record either but it didn't stop them from being reported.

Just like this one from 'Cowboys sources'.

Nobody's on the record on this either, but it seems like Mosely's got enough informations to run with.

He got it from somewhere despite the gag order.

So what did Jerry neutering his coaching staff actually accomplish other then neutering his coaching staff?

I don't think he cared about the T.O. stuff as much as you think. I think it was the all-encompassing insider dirt being revealed.

It was like more and more stories were being reported focusing on the lockerroom turmoil.

The stories about Garrett meetings. The Snitch story. The delayed plane. And the neverending T.O. saga.

Well because he said 'Cowboys source' and the idea that he's got those sources from being the beat reporter for them for so long.

I think Lewis' agent is working with the Ravens right now trying to lock Lewis into a deal with them.

I still don't think Ray is leaving Baltimore.

I'm not fond of retreads past 30 HoL. Especially when they come with a high price tag. I like the player, hate the price when combined with the age.

Free agency hasn't even officially started and the hand-wringing has begun. I hate to see what some of you fellows will be doing in two weeks.

It is always the same at cowboyszone.com. Before free agency it's let's not overspend until the Commanders and other teams do, then it's "where the hell is Jerruh".

I hope people can get a grip this year.

I hate free agency, every year the same teams chase the same positions in hopes of miracles.

The latest on Ray Lewis
February 26, 2009 10:44 AM

Posted by ESPN.com's Matt Mosley

Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome indicated Wednesday that the club is making progress on a contract extension with linebacker Ray Lewis, but he didn't know whether anything would get done before the start of free agency Friday. Lewis, 33, has never been a free agent.

Newsome also pointed out that reaching a deal with free-agent linebacker Bart Scott wouldn't necessarily preclude the club from also signing Lewis. I think it will be difficult to satisfy both players, and I'm not sure the Ravens should try. They've always seemed to have a good sense of when to let players leave. Some of us questioned the wisdom of letting a phenomenal athlete like Adalius Thomas hit free agency a few years ago, but the guy hasn't exactly lit it up in New England.

Lewis is still a possibility in Dallas, but a Cowboys source told me Thursday morning that the club hasn't even spent much time discussing the veteran player. Jones has been burned before when it comes to paying age. Right now, he's focused on paying for outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware and a $1.3 billion stadium.

Honestly, you haven't lived until Jones has given you a lecture on "burn rates." I know the daily burn rate at the owner's new stadium if anyone's interested.

Gotcha......I missed the Cowboys source reference

And again unless he's been given permission to talk to other teams or has been released his agent can't talk to other teams without it being tampering.
