ESPN Mosley: Celek could be the key vs. Cowboys

I think Jenkins may be on Dawkins although it could just as easily be Newman. How that match goes will determine if Sensabaugh can break loose to play his position more naturally. Carp will be on Celek most of the time on third down. Brooking otherwise which is a mismatch. They should help the LBs deep most of the time. I'm worried about Celek with seam routes and the intermediate to deep middle period.

Of course, in 2004, his second year in the league, Witten made his first Pro Bowl. Celek, in his third year, is still waiting on that.

On this pace though, he won't have to wait long.

He'll have to wait a long time, as long as Witten and Tony Gonzalez are in the NFC.

Being an injury replacement is about the best Celek can hope for in the near future.

  • Newman on Jackson with Hamlin over the top. (yes, not the best, but)
  • Jenkins on Maclin
  • Sensabaugh on Celek
  • Trust Ware, Spencer, James, and Brooking to team up with the DLine and stuff the run.
  • Scandrick on any other wideouts / TEs
If we can keep scoring like we have, that should win the game for us.

..doesn't mean it will though.

If we're gonna double team Jackson i think the better option would be Newman on Maclin and Jenkins + Hamlin on Jackson

When Carpenter isn't blitzing up the middle devastating Philly's offensive plans, he'll be blanketing Celek over the middle. He'll hold Celek to 1 catch for 9 yards. The catch came because Carpenter let him just so he could blow him up.

That has Win written all over it. :D

Agree. More than anything we need to continue to smack the wide outs around. They must be hit hard and hit early. Nothing will slow down a fast player like knocking the crap out of them. I don't even care if we get a penalty. I want aggressive hard hits on anyone that tries to make a catch. Our DB's have been doing an excellent job of that lately.

On a more serious note, these WR's arn't that scary. Gonzalez/White and Royal/Marshall weres just as "explosive" as these Eagles WR. Marshall/Royal perhaps more dangerous in that they have speed combined with strength size.

These Eagles WR's are just track stars. Jam them, play them tight.

Have to disagree with you. They are football players. Both of them. I hope you are right and I am wrong, but I have a feeling those to are going to be causing us problems for years to come. I watched Maclin quite a bit in college. He is a player.

Reid saying there are similarities between Celek and Witten?

Comparing a guy who's made a couple nice catches in garbage time against the NY Giants to an All-Pro, first ballot Hall of Fame Tight End?

I lol'd.

No doubt. I don't think people realize how truly special Witten is. He seems to quietly rack up stats, but he makes a huge impact at the same time.

:lmao:

I'm not saying their guy can't play. He can. That's just a funny picture. He's in a suit and has a look on his face while Witten is running without his helmet.

I agree with most of this post except for one little thing. I don't think White is anywhere NEAR as fast as Jackson. That kid can flat burn. Not only that he's actually learning how to set defenders up on his routes for other routes later in the game. The kid a world class knucklehead, but when/if he ever matches football smarts with his speed, he is going to be unbelievably tough to cover.

Roddy White is that tough cover you speak of but he's doing it now. Out of school, (#1st round pick, UAB) he was known as just a burner with bad hands. They were calling him a bust after his 1st year with Vick. Now, he is a legit pro-bowl receiver and he's got speed for days and decent size. He ran a 4.4 at the combine and I think faster at his pro day. Now, while that's not a 4.3 it's still crazy fast for a 6'1'' 200 pounder. He is as much a threat as Jackson, we just don't hear as much about him. He puts up better numbers and should continue.
