This guy compiled a list of the top 25 free agents who are in the best position to cash in this spring with a big deal and what teams should be interested. He links a few to the Cowboys.

5. Wes Welker | WR | Current team: New England Patriots
You could argue that teammate Sebastian Vollmer has more cash to play for (and likely will land the bigger deal), and you could argue that Welker is a creation of the system, an extended handoff for Tom Brady. But that the New England offense lost Rob Gronkowski and hasn't skipped a beat is a credit to Welker, who will reach 120-plus catches this season for the third time in his career. And, as an unrestricted free agent, he might be ready to prove he's more than a system creation.

Fit: Clearly, it's New England, but Welker would be really interesting in Denver, Dallas or even Washington.

-

8. Jairus Byrd | S | Current team: Buffalo Bills
He's not a star, but maybe he should be. Byrd has a Pro Bowl under his belt, as well as a season when he led the NFL in interceptions. Plus, Pro Football Focus has him rated as the top cover safety in the NFL. He'll be an unrestricted free agent in a market that's short on impact at the safety position. Byrd also will have a history of good health; if he finishes this season, he'll have played in 48 consecutive games. If he stays healthy, he'll be in line for a huge deal.

Fit: Dallas could desperately use a safety who covers this well. But so could Detroit, New Orleans, the Jets and maybe even Pittsburgh.

-

10. Sebastian Vollmer | OT | Current team: New England Patriots
The Patriots have their future at left tackle in Nate Solder and might not be willing to go big on a deal to keep Vollmer, a right tackle who missed the bulk of 2011 to injury. But if he finishes strong -- and New England opts to devote free-agency resources elsewhere -- Vollmer could get big money after what has been a very good season.

Fit: Indy, Chicago, Arizona and Dallas should all pick up the phone.

Byrd or Vollmer work for me. I don't think we'll be that big in FA. Especially if we resign Spencer.

I think some things depend on the coaching situation.

but there i no doubt, no matter the offense, Oline needs to be addressed in a big way. Also, no matter the scheme, Dallas needs to improve their safties and Dline/passrush.

at OLine, there are some options: Jake Long-OT (27), Ryan Clady-OT (26), Andre Smith-OT (25), Branden Albert-OT (28)

Dline depends on scheme, but if they stick w/ 3-4: Henry Melton-DT (26), Israel Idonije (32), Cliff Avril-DE (26),

OLB/passrusher: Conner Barwin-OLB (26) is the only real attractive name other than Spencer (28)

Saftie has options: Jarius Byrd (26), Dashon Goldston (28), LaRon Landry (28)

Byrd should be a top target so that we don't have to trust the position to just scrubs anymore. That they include the Steelers who already have Troy, should say enough as to the importance of the position and how much was suck at it. If you want a dominant D, our pitiful safety crew shouldn't be allowed on the field.

I would be happily surprised if we went tackle and WR in FA, with tackle usually bringing alot of money and the team probably thinking they have a WR within who can play the role. The interior of the OL would be much cheaper to bring in, and seeing one of them brought in is much more feasible than a tackle. Wes will want too much money, but would be nice to see a guy brought in at the vet minimum for that position.

Invest in the lines, I would be very happy with:

Andy Levitre (BUF) - OG

Terrance Knighton (JAC) - NT

Think there's a chance we'll actually go after Vollmer?

Byrd!

Levitre and Knightton too.

No thanks to Welker unless it was a great bargain

If Dallas was to say bye to Austin I would love Welker. But i just see Dallas restructuring Austins deal.

Dallas was fine with Church and Sensabaugh. Think the organization feels theyre ok. I do too. But a mid round S wouldnt hurt. Good to have Depth.

Dallas needs to concentrate on the OL and DL. Plain and simple. Theyre good everywhere else.

This is definitely where the focus needs to be.

Also, for next year, we can throw M Johnson into the Safety mix as well. It seems the staff liked what little they saw of him in practice this year. But I agree that we should look to draft another Safety in the mid-rounds next year as well.

I don't believe my above statement anymore than I believe your statement. Both positions need to be addressed, immediately.

What makes me believe theyre ok with Sens and church is they gave Church a new contract while he was injured. Its not alot but the guy is a rich man now. If he wouldve stayed healthy he wouldve gotten a contract next yr in the range of 12-15 mil probably more. instead he got 8 mil deal

Yeah they seemed to have like something in Matt. But time will tell if its justified.

you know Dallas could have drafted vollmer ?

Thank Roy Williams for that people !! SMH !!

I think that's gonna be a pretty hot debate topic in the offseason. I like Spencer. Always have. And he's playing perhaps his best ball this year. A lot of questions though. If he gets a big deal, will he play up to it over the next three years? What kind of deal will it take? Will that leave enough money/resources to fill other needs? Is he worth franchising, if need be? Can we replace him with a guy like Carter, or perhaps a less expensive FA or draft pick?

It's easy to look at his production and say re-signing him is a must, but you have to take the whole roster into account, and not just one player at one position. In the end, what makes the team better as a whole? If it's keeping Spencer, then do it. If not, let him go.

Church played one healthy game this season, where he didn't make a single big play. Never has had an INT or PD in his entire career. To base our next season on him would be very naive, plus the fact that Sensy is very mediocre at best, and usually below average.

If we invest resources for CBs, we have to invest in resources to support them. Sensy is no better than Berny for this defense, and needs to be replaced just like Berny does. He has probably made 2 plays this whole season, and needs to be gone immediately.
