ESPN: Possible Cowboys FA targets

you know Dallas could have drafted vollmer ?

Thank Roy Williams for that people !! SMH !!

The RW trade really had nothing to do with it, IIRC. The Pats got Vollmer late in the 2nd. We were targeting Unger, who got snatched up by Seattle. We still could have gotten Vollmer with our pick, but traded back into the 3rd.

Edit: After the Cowboys traded their 2nd round pick, they could have had either LeVvtre or Vollmer with the 51st pick. Buffalo took Levitre at 51, and NE got Vollmer at 58. Still, trade or no, we could have had either one, but instead traded back into the 3rd and took Robert Brewster. DOH!!

Whenever I see Jarius Byrd, I think of our epic 2009 draft class. whiff.

No to more money in the defensive backfield. We did that this year and went ti the Walmart bargain bin for the offense. We need to focus on fixing the Oline above all else. We have safeties on this team that can play when healthy.

Church played one healthy game this season, where he didn't make a single big play. Never has had an INT or PD in his entire career. To base our next season on him would be very naive, plus the fact that Sensy is very mediocre at best, and usually below average.

If we invest resources for CBs, we have to invest in resources to support them. Sensy is no better than Berny for this defense, and needs to be replaced just like Berny does. He has probably made 2 plays this whole season, and needs to be gone immediately.

And yet Dallas lead the league in 3 and outs up until Lee and Carter went on IR. So whats really the cause for the decline in defense?

I would doubt they will look at the secondary, I do agree the OL and DL especially if Rat will not be back and of course Brent likely will not be back that leaves us with very little up the middle on the DL. Also we have Spencer’s contract do they pay him or let him walk?

OL needs to be addressed

As mentioned last week. Injuries to the ILB Lee and Carter, NT Ratliff and S Church. All of these spots affect the middle of the defense not an accident that teams are attacking that area.

I think that's gonna be a pretty hot debate topic in the offseason. I like Spencer. Always have. And he's playing perhaps his best ball this year. A lot of questions though. If he gets a big deal, will he play up to it over the next three years? What kind of deal will it take? Will that leave enough money/resources to fill other needs? Is he worth franchising, if need be? Can we replace him with a guy like Carter, or perhaps a less expensive FA or draft pick?

It's easy to look at his production and say re-signing him is a must, but you have to take the whole roster into account, and not just one player at one position. In the end, what makes the team better as a whole? If it's keeping Spencer, then do it. If not, let him go.

I think we're going to have to let him walk, the money it's going to cost to re-sign him could be better spent improving other areas. I'd take a downgrade at SOLB if it meant we got upgrades along both lines. I just think we'd get more bang for our bucks if we spent that money on other stuff

And how many turnovers were we causing at the time.

I understand that help is needed on the OL and DL, thats obvious, but to say that its not needed at safety is a bit much cause we need all 3. Now everything comes down to if we resign Spencer, but I could still see a draft of 1st round DL, 2nd round OL, and 3rd round safety easily in the realm of possible depending on free agency.

Don't want vollmer, 29 with a history of back injuries and will cost a lot of money.

I would rather have Albert than Vollmer.
Also I would live to get Byrd and Levitre.
Other FAs I want are
Slauson
Knighton
Desmond Bryant

Wes Welker or Dwayne Bowe would be nice additions.

I would be happy with any of the above, I know we cannot get them all.

You will get the FA back up linemen from the Chicago Bears, and like it!

Until the season starts!

Dallas was fine with Livings and Berny. Think the organization feels theyre ok. I do too. But a mid round G wouldnt hurt. Good to have Depth.

I don't believe my above statement anymore than I believe your statement. Both positions need to be addressed, immediately.

Dallas will give Church and Sens every chance ot start next year.
They'll also bring back their 4th this year from injury to challenge or provide depth.

The team won't have cap space to fill luxuries. It will cover huge needs.

Right now RT is the biggest need.

Same here. Of course, you don't want to be sorely lacking there, but that'd be the way to go IMO.

Keep in mind this is a list of guys who the writer figures is most set for a big payday not a best overall list. That's why you see a guy like Jake Long at 18. His injury situation drops him down a list like this.

Think there's a chance we'll actually go after Vollmer?

Not really. We don't value the OL.

Now if Morris Claiborne gets the sniffles we're liable to make a move up for Dee Milliner in April.

And then watch flabbergasted next fall when nothing changes.
