I don’t put a ton of stock in “power rankings” before a seasons starts because it’s all paper at this point. But I know many Cowboys fans do so I thought I would share this as we approach the season. I can’t link it because it’s ESPN+ but I can at least mention what they said.

ESPN’s Top Ten Preseason Power Rankings:
  1. Kansas City- with the best player in the NFL (Mahomes) and an all time great offensive coach in Andy Reid, the chiefs should be #1. The Chris Jones holdout is a problem but I’ll be shocked if isn’t worked out soon.
  2. Filly eaglets- they remain loaded at several positions but no NFC East winner has repeated in nearly 20 years. I’m skeptical.
  3. Buffalo- Josh Allen is good but he throws too many picks.
  4. Cincinnati- if Joe Burrow is healthy they will be very tough.
  5. Miami- great defense on paper, but Tua although good last year is is still a health question mark.
  6. Cowboys- ESPN says adding Gilmore and Cooks makes us better. They also say we are much closer to Filly than last year. I agree. The OL starters are good but no depth.
  7. San Fran- their OL has questions but ESPN says Shanahan can get the most out of an offense. Surprised ESPN has them this low.
  8. LA Chargers- they have the talented QB Herbert but so far has not materialized in a playoff win. ESPN apparently thinks they might do that this year.
  9. Cleveland- This ranking surprises me. ESPN thinks a lot more of this roster than I do. DeShaun Watson has talent but not sure he’s good enough to make this team a top ten team.
  10. NY Jets- I would have ranked them higher than Cle and higher than 10. Rodgers I’d diminished but he’s still good. And the jets have a pretty good D. If Rodgers upgrades their offense they could be really good.
Like I said at the start, I don’t put a lot of stock in these rankings before we’ve seen a single team play a down of meaningful football yet.The NFL of late is a year to year thing. A great team one year doesn’t mean it is the next. Starting next weekend we will begin the process of separating the contenders from the pretenders.

Thoughts?

Behind? Filly I assume?
This offseason has sort of reminded me of the 08 offseason. Dallas lost in the divisional round playoffs in 07 and a rival went to the super bowl....then the offseason and training camp hit and Dallas became the favorites somehow in the nfc over the other teams who were more successful.

They had two first round draft picks they used on a corner and a running back, two weaknesses of the 07 team and signed a star cb in pacman jones along with veteran linebacker zach thomas.

Then the season came and they missed the playoffs after months of this team is a lock for the championship game talk for 8 months in the offseason.

If i'm not mistaken that was when they were just signing anyone like Pac-Man, Tank Johnson and I think there were more. Killed that locker room.

They lost a lot of players and their 2 coordinators.
My response was in regard to media love.

The eagles literally went 14-3, won two home playoff games in blowouts and lost the super bowl by a field goal.

that's not media love. Media love is what the cowboys and chargers get every year or in this years terms what the Jets are getting.

they were 14-3 and lost the super bowl by a fg?

what am I missing?
Lost many starters, and both OC & DC. An entire year of film to look at. And they really did not replace those players. Except with some unproven players at this point.

We seen this used against Dallas many times, but never against other teams. SF in the same situation Or worse.

Cowboys do not get the media love, just the opposite. Sometimes deserved Though.
There have been quite a few year Eagles got media love, then failed, only to get more love the next off season.

I put us above Miami. I have Cincy above Buffalo. I don't have Cleveland in my top 10--Baltimore has a more complete roster.

1. KC
2. Philly
3. Cincy
4. Tie: Cowboys and Bills
6. San Fran
7. Miami
8. Chargers
9. Jets
10. Ravens
Honorable mention: Seattle

Ok but the offense is the head coaches offense not the former coordinators. So that is just someone else calling plays of the head coaches offense.

The DC could be a factor I imagine. They had a lot of sacks and caused a lot of problems with that front 7. Chances are it will not be as much.

either way, the team actually did what people are speculating they could do again. Seems pretty reasonable to me to say philadelphia is a very good football team.

Not saying they are not good. They just get way too much love compared to other decent teams out there.
If one did not follow every thing all that close.
Then would read each year going into the season. They would think the Eagles won like 10 SB’s and are always unstoppable.

If Dallas maintains the 2.0 second line stability, they can take Philadelphia.

Don't understand the endless media love affair with the Eagles.

Fact- the Cowboys are 8-3 in their past 11 games with Philly. And while one of the wins was against Gardner Minshew last year, I don't think the Eagles are giving back beating Cooper Rush so it evens out.

If you are going to say Dallas is 8-3 vs philly over the last 11 games that means you are going back 6 seasons essentially.

in those 6 seasons the Eagles are 1-1 in superbowls over the same span Dallas is 8-3 against them.
