I DO mind when I'm at a job interview, or talking to my boss. On a message board? i dont really care if i use bad grammar, because im not here to judge or be judged on it, im here to talk football. And if most people can understand me then great.

My man, everything you say ultimately reflects on your intelligence, or lack of it... obviously, that applies to everything you WRITE, too...

As a matter of fact, I have in the past had people online overestimate just how smart I am, just because I take a little time and trouble to express myself with clarity... that's part of the reason I sprinkle in a few "good ol' boy-isms" into my posts, because whether or not I am intelligent, in my heart I am just a good ol' boy...

Perhaps it would help you if you understood that I'm a writer at heart, have had a few things published over the years, and have a great novel just sitting around waiting for me to get off my lazy butt and finish it... so the English language is a precious thing to me, you might say one of my hot buttons...

That's where I'm coming from, and nothing you could say could possibly change my mind on that one... since you post to these boards, I assume that like everybody else you want your OPINION to be respected... unfortunately for you, how you express that opinion directly affects how much respect that opinion is afforded...

Look at this board's most highly respected members, and you'll see that all of them express themselves quite well...

thats the first time i have heard someone say something like that.
"When you address a post to me, you invite yourself into my world" Im sorry but that line is funny.

Do you often find the truth amusing?? Or is logical thought so foreign to you that you find it comical??

Perhaps if you had given me a more intelligent response than "this isn't real life", I might have made an effort to give you a more gratifying answer... I might, for example, have pointed out that yes, even posting to a message board is part of "real life" for me, and judging by your post count, for you as well...

If you dont like people using abbreviations all the time, and "texting" then i guess that means you really dont like teens, and people in their early 20's. Text messaging is one of the most popular things these days. Sure not all do it, but id say a vast majority do.

I don't like text messaging, AT ALL... but it's a stretch of logic to suggest that means I don't like teens, or people in the early 20s...

I don't even dislike RIB, but I will make fun of him, or anybody, who has substituted text slang for the English language... text slang is the refuge of the ignorant, and the lazy...

And apparently, I'm not the only one in here who feels that way... I find it deliciously amusing that you're so defensive about this... :D

i found it funny because of the way you worded it. Nothing more, nothing less.
What does post count have anything to do with it. I don't post that much to be honest, and it might be real world in general, but to me this is just a way to give out my thoughts on the boys without having a person right next to me. Thats why i don't consider it real life.

I'm defensive about this because people are ripping a guy for something silly IMO.

also he didn't call out anyone, or anything to get a poster mad, except for the guys who are the grammar police.

I enjoy reading your posts. While some people are like you, there are others who are here for fun. I like to post mostly for fun, not to prove I am all knowing on all football topics. I throw a ton of off the wall stuff around just to see some of the reactions it gets. To steal a phrase from the great Emmitt Smith, "at the end of the day", who is to say some one is not as intelligent as the next guy because they don't take the time to perfect the typing on a football forum.

Oh, that's entirely cool... see what happens when you COMMUNICATE, sometimes you reach an UNDERSTANDING...

And I spend a fair amount of time entertaining myself in here... there are posters that I have come to consider friends, a few of whom have actually been to my house (a couple more have invitations to take in a game this season, I hope we can make it happen)...

Basically, I was just mocking your "real life" comments... I find that kind of comeback to be cliched beyond belief-- "you need to get a life", WOW, what wit!!!

It's like you didn't have anything to say, but you wanted to say SOMETHING... :D

Look, playing grammar cop is garbage a lot of the time, but when a poster is so bad that you have to read it two or three times to figure out what in God's name he's saying, then he's ripe for criticism...

You might find it "silly", but it's equally possible that I'd find any number of your hot button issues silly as well... and where exactly did you get the notion that YOU get to set the standards for what is or isn't acceptable posting in here?? Where do you get off trying to "order" us about what we should or shouldn't do??

That sounds more angry than I mean it to, but I stand behind the point being made... we're criticizing RIB for his posting, you're criticizing us for ours... don't see where you can claim any moral high ground here...

Hey, thanks, bud... some people like me, some people purely loathe me, and y'know, I cherish my enemies almost as much as I do my friends... I guess my take on it is if you're out front with your opinions, you're gonna be kind of polarizing...

While some people are like you, there are others who are here for fun.

What, you don't think I'm having fun?? :D

I note that you made an effort to use good grammar, and if memory serves, that's your typical posting pattern...

Like I said, there are lots of guys in here who don't take the greatest care with their posts, and are still very well-liked and/or respected... dargonking has fun with his atrocious spelling, but he's one of my faves in here... I generally don't go down the grammar cop road, it is a tiresome tactic most of the time... but RIB's posts these last coupla days have been WAY over the top... I also read his first post to this thread, and had to reread it, asking myself what he just said...

When your usage of text slang shortcuts gets to the point where it obscures the point you're trying to make, as happened here, then it is legitimate to ridicule that usage... who knows, maybe RIB will get embarrassed by this ridicule, and actually make an effort to communicate his thoughts with a bit more clarity in the future... in which case something good will have come from our boorish criticism of the poor soul... LOL...

FWIW, after posting this, I found a grammatically incorrect turn of phrase in this post, and just finished editing it... took me all of 20 seconds, including typing out this PS...

I know you are having fun, no doubt about it. Some times maybe too much.:D I do agree that RIB is a tad confusing in his one liners, which I find funny because it's rare when they are more than one line.
If he's texting, well he is a better man than I. I wouldn't know where to begin texting from a cell phone to my computer.: In reality I didn't know it could be done.:)

Oops, just realized we are talking about "text slang" not actually texting. On that point I agree, if you are going to sit and type a thought, use all the letters. any thing else is lazy, for the most part.

Spoil sport...

Never have sent a text message, never will... maybe that's because I don't own a cell phone... long before they became popular, I ragged on friends who were slaves to that d*mned telephone... I have an answering machine, that's as technological as I want to get with a freakin' phone...

Heck, I don't even use the instant messaging programs any more...

Oops, just realized we are talking about "text slang" not actually texting. On that point I agree, if you are going to sit and type a thought, use all the letters. any thing else is lazy, for the most part.

I get a kick out of the new commercial where Mom is goin' off on her kids for the hundreds of text messages they'd sent over the past month, and they respond to her in text slang... then we turn to granny, over in her rocking chair, texting away, and she also goes down the MYOB road, and MBFF... if they hadn't offered subtitles, I wouldn't have had the first clue what MBFF referred to...

Well, if you wanna talk with me, I highly recommend you use WORDS, not letters... I'll make exceptions for some of the more common acronyms in internet usage today, before I came online I'd never ever used LOL, or FYI, or FWIW, or BTW... but if I have to figure out what your acronym means, I'm not really interested in making the effort...

Maybe it's just me, but I find it rather offensive that other teams fans view Cowboys fans as illiterate, tobacco chewing, inbred, pickup driving rednecks. It's a stereotype that is flat out insulting to me. I'm proud of my education. I appreciate the educations of many on this forum. They are more valuable to me than I have the capacity to express. Know why? Because they obliterate the stupid stereotype.

So I'm a little taken aback at times by things that perpetuate the stereotype. Call it a pet peeve. Nothing personal is meant to anyone at all, but I don't like to look or sound dumb. Not even on a message board. How that is perfectly fine to anyone is simply beyond me.

Understand something, I'm not talking about accents or slang. Hell, we all use some slang now and then. It doesn't bother me if someone says ain't or cuz or thru. I'm talking about when something said or posted isn't exactly a complete thought or I have to read it several times to make sense of it.

At that point I think about how that post can be posted on some other team's message board and the comments added about how stupid Cowboys fans really are. If that doesn't bother you then fine. Congratulations I suppose.

If you think the fact it doesn't bother YOU means squat to me, then you are sadly mistaken. If that offends you, oh well. Either you'll get over it or you won't.

I take pride in trying every time I post to make my thoughts legible, understandable, and hopefully free of typos that distract. That's my thing. It doesn't have to be yours. Am I always successful? Of course not. But I seriously doubt many people who are honest think I'm an illiterate, bumbling fool. If not, mission accomplished. Kudos to anyone who doesn't mind looking like an illiterate, bumbling fool. I suppose.

Rednecks have to try harder in life not to come off bumbling fools who couldn't spell CAT , if you spotted them the C and the T .....the fact of the matter remains however, that people from the south are viewed as generally "backward" hence them being the butt of jokes from around the globe.
I do appreciate your effort to rise above though.
