ESPN - Ranking the NFL's offensive triplets from 32-1

I think the only questionable ones are the Cardinals and Panthers.

Big Ben < Romo
Brown > Bryant
Bell> Elliott*

Newton did have 45 Total Tds last year. I don't think he is a great passer, but his running ability makes him potentially a top tier QB.
Stewart is good, but not great. Olsen is a great TE, but rather have a guy like Dez at WR than Olsen at TE.

The five ranked higher were...

1. Steelers - Roethlisberger, Bell, A. Brown
2. Patriots - Brady, Edelman, Gronkowski
3. Packers - Rodgers, Nelson, Cobb
4. Panthers - Newton, Stewart, Olsen
5. Cardinals - Palmer, Fitzgerald, J. Brown

Those triplets are actually ones I can't argue against except for the cardinals. I like Fitzgerald a lot, he was in my opinion the best reciever in the league for a good stretch of time but always got the shaft from poor qb play. I wanted Fitzgerald to be a cowboy so baaaad years back. I also was rooting so hard for him the year they lost to the steelers in the SB.

Antonio brown is just a production machine. He's so fun to watch. I also like saying his name, Antonio Brown.

Edit: there is no RB listed for GB??

I can argue against the Panthers too.

It's not strictly a QB/RB/WR trio. Whatever they feel is your best 3 skill position players. Cobb is better than Lacy.

We could arguably be first in my opinion. We are definitely better then the Panthers and Cardinals

The Steelers are easily the proven best triplets in the NFL right now. I'd put the Packers second. Then Dallas and Patriots in a tie, until Zeke has games under his belt to break the tie and maybe push the group up to 1.

I only somewhat get the packer love.

Lacy is a pretty big weak link. Jordy, while good is only a piece of the puzzle as well... Their most important WR, but he is not "that dude" like Dez.

Also no to the Panthers. Can is great but Stewart is average and Olsen is pretty good but not a game changer.

A team's 3 best skill position players not strictly a QB-RB-WR trio.

6. Dallas Cowboys

QB Tony Romo, RB Ezekiel Elliott, WR Dez Bryant

Here's the difference between basing expectations on players staying healthy and players suffering a typical amount of injury. We have no idea about Elliott's propensity for injury heading into the pros, but we know that Romo's style of play and history suggests that he's going to struggle to stay healthy. Even if Romo's offseason collarbone surgery does prevent the longtime Dallas starter from suffering another fractured clavicle, Romo's style, advancing age and repeated back issues suggest that he's still likely to miss time, even if it's not the vast majority of the season. And while the Cowboys are hopeful that Bryant will recover from a fractured foot that ruined his 2015 campaign, those sorts of injuries have a way of recurring. If everyone stays healthy, this could be one of the three best triplet combinations in football, and comfortably the best the Cowboys have had since that famous Aikman-Smith-Irvin combo from the 1990s. That's just a big ask.

Did John Madden coin the phrase triplets in reference to Aikman, Irvin, and Smith? Or was it used before that.

It's hard to rank our triplets too high considering two of them are coming off injury riddled seasons and one hasn't played a down in the NFL yet.

Sixth is incredibly generous when one of them has never taken an NFL snap, another was injured most of last season and has suffered season ending injuries in two of the past three years, and another missed half the season and wasn't particularly effective when he played.

Super Bowl XL. "Won" by Ben? His stat line that day?
9-21, 121 yards, 2 picks
QB rating of 22.6

I get it. I agree he sucked that day.

It's was one game, however.

He's been to 3 Superbowls, won 2 of them, played in a ton of playoff games and won 11 of them. Beyond that he's been a top notch in the regular season for long long time as well.

Roethlisberger and Bell both miss games throughout the year season after season.

The Cardinals Triplets should be Palmer, David Johnson and Fitzgerald. Johnson is a better player at his position than Brown is and probably will be the most productive out of the 3 this season.

Mike Irvin coined term. Madden popularized it by using it repeatedly on air.

I don't see a problem with that at all.

The only exception being the Cardinals..Palmer is still a choke artist and thankfully Romo is past those days. For that alone I'll take our trio over the Cards.
