OXNARD, Calif. -- First-round pick Zack Martin had a welcome-to-the-NFL moment on the first full-speed practice rep of his NFL career. Defensive tackle Henry Melton exploded past the rookie right guard in the one-on-one pass-rush drill. In the blink of an eye, Melton got Martin to lean a little to his right, changed directions and ripped through with his hands to win the rep about as convincingly as possible. "I just had to let him know that I'm here and it's going to be a long training camp," Melton said.

With Berny's history never too soon to have an emergency center. Fred goes down, Berny slides in, Berny goes down, slide martin in, and ABC into his guard spot?

I would think because should Frederick go down the can put one of their better interior lineman at center.

But we know that this staff just doesn't like to do that thing where you move guys around - that means you are making two changes to deal with one injury.

Because they want to see if he can play that spot if they have to have him there.

Not a big conspiracy theory behind all of these things really.

The conspiracy would be if they were playing him at OG and OT instead.

That would be something that would make you perk your ears up.

It's on now. The rest of training camp should be a war. Good stuff.

I am actually kinda disappointed that he has not played right tackle in TC,surely he could use some reps there(afterall he has played 4 years as LT).

Don't think it is a conspiracy -- just odd in that he's learning a new position already at G. We've got Bern and Nwaneri with experience as backup centers.

That would have been the case last year as well as one of the guards Mackenzy Bernadeau was backup center. Consider the importance of the center position they want to put the best candidates out there and if that means Martin then great.

That's only the case because our starting LG was lost for the season.

Evidently they feel Martin can do it and given the importance of Center want to try him out as 2nd string sorry not that hard to figure out.

I loved the pick, like everyone else I liked Donald from Pitt.

But the draft room picture is so sobering, they had more cheer drafting 7th round draft picks than our 1st round draft week

Actually it is hard to figure out as he's already learning a new position.

yet still having a good camp at G position. One reason the Cowboys liked him so much is they felt he could play across the OL so early on in camp they are taking a look. Outside of LT I think many consider the center position critical. If Fredrick has to miss time then evidently they would rather see a talent like Martin step in.

Hope that group is ready to mow down 49er defenders in six weeks.
