ESPN: Roy Williams Released

really? IMO it would be nice to get a 3rd WR, but if Dwayne Harris, Kevin Ogletree or Martellus Bennet step up, we're fine. not many teams top 3 recieving options are as good as Jason Witten, Miles Austin and Dez Bryant.

I'm excited about this move, even tho I liked Roy, because there's going to be a fierce training camp battle here.

Look out. I love these things!

We need a guy like Amendola or the great from Tech, Welker. But great wiggly guy. That's what we need to exploit the middle. Romo can hit those guys. Crayton was sorta like this. I liked Crayton, too...I saw some great things from him and the same holds true for Roy. But it is a business, although I'll always have fond memories of both.

Back to the topic, someone like Amendola would just be exciting in there. But maybe we go for a big guy with speed who can block. Roy was a good fit, just not for the money.

Just put Dez and Ogletree out Wide and put Miles in the slot. Problem solved.

You got Dez, Austin, and Witten with receiving threats coming out of the backfield if need be.

If you can't find a 4th or 5th option on the cheap or develop it than we got problems

RT @flact75 With Roy getting cut, does that mean we try to sign Sam Hurd back? > We'll see. Was told in Feb. not to rule out Hurd return.

Didnt read quite all of the thread, but did anyone give Jerry credit for cutting his losses and basically admitting his mistake?

Most team have top QB's? What

I agree protection is important and I think we will address that but that does not mean we have to go bare minium at WR and I don't think the Cowboys are dumb enough to do that. GB is not going out with UDFA and hoping they pan out they went out and got WR with talent so this notion just protect the QB and he can make anyone look good is just crazy

Only because we don't have guys who are all-pro up front at every position. If we did, he'd be right. We could get by with the WRs we have... and whoever won the spot in TC. Hurd is my bet at #3. He had some good showings last year in limited time.

I believe he has developed nicely.

Oh, no doubt mix it up and even put Dez in the slot to confuse them and even peak into their coverage type. But man, I think Hurd can be formidable.

I probably overrated him with him being a San Antonio guy, but I do think Hurd is a quality backup receiver. Hs always struck me as a potential poor mans Crayton (yeah, yeah...lol).

They save $5 million this year but take a $8 million hit in 2012.

actually AdamJT showed that even tho they will count that much, it's still less than if they were with the team. This results in a net savings on next years cap as well.

I don't agree that the 3rd WR is not that big of a deal. It's a very big deal. With the way teams pass anymore that 3rd WR is another starter, just like the nickel corner.

lot of good having all those WRs did us last year.

This team needs to fix the OL and secondary, first and foremost. Then get to the defensive ends. Then worry about nickel wide receiver.

With Roy, so ends one of the most perplexing Cowboys careers.you k ew we overpaid when we got him, but who he would perform so poorly opposite T.O., and later Miles Austin.

Agreed. More and more teams have been sliding in no name receivers and seeing promising results. The quarterback drives the offense, and a quality quarterback can make a mediocre No. 3 receiver look just fine.

Sure, if we lose Miles or Dez, we lack depth. But we also have two of the leagues most talented receivers to begin with, son at least we are starting off at a good baseline.

Why do you hate TO?

I think your blinded by his bad publicity. The dude is an animal and one of the hardest workers on the field.

I hate TO, one the single most narcissistic people I have ever observed, also extremely disrespectful of others
