The premise Dak is a rare talent that will eventually get paid the big bucks and we should be taking advantage of having him on the cheap before he gets paid. I don't by the premise. Dak has still not proven himself to be that guy.

You have to actually click on the article and read it prior to commenting on it.

The article is spot on. That goal of an NFL franchise is to win not accumulate cap space. The point is that while most teams are loading up trying to win with their young QBs on cheap contracts, the cowboys aren't doing anything for Dak. Compared to what the Eagles, Rams, and Bears have done around their young franchise QB's, Dallas has done next to nothing other than shed contracts............which only benefits the team if that money is used to sign better players. Our FO has taken a vacation the past 2 off seasons when they should have been loading up and surrounding their franchise QB with weapons.

Now, you can debate whether Dak is on par with the other young guns in the league, but it sure looked like he was after 2016............and we did nothing that offseason.

We didn’t have much wiggle room to do anything after the 2016 season anyway, so it made sense to shed contracts, even last offseason.

Yeah they were still paying for washed up former players.

Cowboys are missing a chance to win while they have a very cheap QB. See what Seattle did before Wilson got his big deal.

It makes even less sense to assume that he will continue to make progress and therefore cut spending now to prepare.

The NFL is a year to year league. Thinking a QB that is not there yet is going to demand a huge contract is just ridiculous.

But we wasted this offseason thinking that.

That ESPN article was a pile of crap. And critics here of the front-office are out of their minds on this. Out of their minds!

-What leading edge receivers could we have signed in free agency?!?
-We made some resourceful second tier pickups in Hurns and Thompson
-We picked up Austin for a six pack of cokes
-In a draft that was viewed as thin at receivers we may have drafted the best one!

And memo from Sunday: the receivers weren’t the problem at all! Dak was the problem.

I don't think that's what they did but whatever, we all think we know something about the Cowboys that we actually have no clue about.

I think the rhetoric coming out of the club all offseason tells a tale.

It was mentioned on multiple times from Stephen Jones that they were anticipating a big Prescott pay day.

This team is not that hard to understand if you pay attention to what they say and how they behave.

The article is talking about the past 2 off seasons. The point is pretty simple. A good QB on a rookie deal is a great opportunity and a huge cap advantage. Coming off his amazing 2016 season, most NFL teams would take advantage of Dak's cheap contract and go on a spending spree loading up at other positions. Thats basically what Howie Roseman did in Philly. Thats what the Rams did with goff. Dallas has done basically nothing in terms of of upgrading the roster talent the past 2 off seasons. Hurns and Thompson are a joke. You gotta be kidding. We were in a bidding war with ourselves for those guys. They are not upgrades. Austin was draft bust in LA. Got him nothing. These are not the big moves we needed. So, in that way, we are wasting a cheap QB contract.

Is this a strategy ? No, this is a consequence of years of poor cap management which should shock absolutely nobody that follows the team. This and some questionable coaching is why we are going nowhere this year yet again.

You don’t spend money just to spend it!!! That’s stupidity. When you can come up with a list of player makers we should have signed I’ll take you seriously. Until then...I think this is nonsense.

Two offseasons ago the team (along with 90% of fans) still thought Dez was a top 15 WR. Then Witten’s resignation took everyone by surprise.

You are totally contradicting yourself! You say we had years of poor cap management and then you want us to spend excessively and foolishly!

Based on his first 24 games Dad was headed for—and might have been deserving of— a big payday. Since mid-17 season he’s fallen off a cliff.

If that's what they are anticipating then I have good news. They can save their money but draft a top notch QB.

You are totally not following the argument. I think this discussion is over your head.

I have bad news for you. They are far more likely to look for excuses for their newly anointed face the franchise than dare ever draft competition high.

That is not how this franchise does business. It is pretty evident.

And that is an accurate perception.

If you don't start generating excuses like no Zeke, no Tryon and so on.

When you do that, you start dancing back to fond memories of 2016, which quite frankly is about as worthwhile as Garrett's "coach of the year" award as far as I am concerned.

The major flaw with their premise was that we actually were paying for a top QB

Romo was on Year 3 of a 6/108m deal in 2016..... we just got lucky with Dak when Romo got crippled

Romo retiring actually freed up 34m from the cap but we chose the draft and comp picks over FAs and wanted to save the money for our own guys..... we rolled over 8m last year and didn't restructure Dez, Crawford and others to further pay down the debt

We aren't wasting an opportunity we never had..... Romo is still on the books for 9m this year .....Dez for 8m

Next year is the test....... Dak is still cheap for 2 more years, Zeke for 3 years...... we will have 70m and only DLaw, Irving and Beasley as FAs

Could happen. That’s the beauty of having available money in the bank. They can extend DeMarcus, lock in Awuzie longterm...sign a splashy FA *when* it makes sense, etc.

ESPN is garbage and those who carry ESPN narratives to this forum are shown to be digging through the trash. Grease stains and banana peels everywhere.

Lee, Tyron and Zeke didn’t play to their standards. That’s for certain.

You are wrong. They will figure out by the end of the season that Dak isn't the anointed one they wanted him to be.

I just hope they figure out Dak is not the franchise QB they want him to be before they give him a huge contract.
