I'm going to go more out of curiosity, since clearly it's not going to make any sort of difference. Not sure what the point is.

Are you a student or faculty?

Really? Easier to recruit at Auburn for sure, but I'm not sure it's any easier to get 8 wins there per year.

Mike Leach won as many games in 10 seasons as Spike Dykes won in 14 years. Dykes won 9 games twice, outside of that he never won more than 7. Mike Leach has won at least 8 games the last 8 years, If you go back from 1950-2000 they won 8 or more games 8 times in 50 years.

Granted there are more games now so 8 games isn't what it used to be. But Lubbock Texas is also the middle of nowhere. It isn't easy to recruit to because there's really nothing there. If you've ever driven through the panhandle you know this. You really have to be dynamic to get good players there. Like him or not that's what Leach is. I don't see that with Tubberville.

He won at Ole Miss too, before he went to Auburn.

The guys a good coach. And he is an excellent recruiter. He will win. He'll also improve that lousy defense.

And just a little more background. He was on Miami's staff with Jimmy Johnson and Dennis Erickson, won 3 national titles there. He was DC for one of the national championships. Then went to Texas A&M, they went unbeaten the yr he was DC. Then became HC at Ole Miss.

Tuberville is at the coaches convention in Orlando interviewing for staff positions.

He apparently is going to interview Troy's offensive coordinator, Neal Brown.

I know all of this, but it doesn't really matter to me. This is a different spot. When he was winning at Auburn he was competing against a worse SEC. Saben was at LSU then Miles took over but that was really the only program beating him in recruiting in the SEC. Zook at Florida and Alabama had Shula and Franchione. The reason he went down is the coaching in the SEC got a lot better. Meyer took over at Florida, Saben took over Bama. Auburn went from fighting for first in the SEC to fighting for 4th or 5th best in the SEC in about a year or two. In the Big 12 Oklahoma and Texas are recruiting well. A&M has had better recruiting classes the last couple of years and Oklahoma State has been recruiting well too. Tech's talent right now is probably around 5th in the South.

It's funny ... I guess it's a matter of perspective.

As a kid growing up in eastern New Mexico, I always thought Lubbock was the big city. :laugh2: They call it the Hub City because it's in the middle of the Panhandle and is the center of everything for all those rural communities scattered for miles and miles.

Look at the rest of the Big 12. Norman is just south of OKC and about 190 miles from Dallas. Austin Texas is a huge city and one of the best party towns in the nation, College Station is within 200 miles of all the major cities in Texas. Oklahoma State is further out there about 40 miles from OKC and a little over 200 miles from Dallas but they've gotten a good Houston pipeline the last few years. Lubbock is about 300 miles from Dallas and around 250 to OKC. People went to Tech because of Leach and his offense. That's how he got the Crabtrees and the Harrell's. I'm not sure if they'll have that advantage anymore.

What's Spike Dikes have to do with Tommy Tubberville?

Anyway, I agree that Leach did an outstanding job in Lubbuck....and I was agreeing that is easier to recruit at Auburn than at TT.

You say "It's easier to win at Auburn", but as I remember Auburn wasn't any good before he got there. Well, at least since the Pat Dye years.

And I've been to Auburn, Alabama. It's much more of a small town than Lubbock. Tuberville is a naturally likable guy and I think he'll be able to recruit just fine. A good coach can win almost anywhere.

Agreed as long as he can talk some those Odessa Permain players into playing for him instead of Mack

An SEC coach coming to the Big 12. Thoughts?

I think Tuberville is an excellent HC. I think he has to be careful about changing things on offense to quickly if at all.

One of these other big 12 schools HAS to step up eventually.

For me I think all Oklahoma State is missing is a Big name coach.

With the facilities they have all they need is a shock factor as the coach.

Gundy isn't going to give you that + he is a terrible OC.

I hope Tubberville can get his squad to take the next step but ill believe it when I see it.

Im just tired of the lack of competition in this conference vs either OU or Texas.

Looks like Tech's offensive coordinator will be Neal Brown, who was the offensive coordinator at Troy the past couple of years. He's only 29.

The defensive coordinator will probably be James Willis, the LB coach and associate head coach at Alabama.

I hope Tuberville keeps inside receivers coach Lincoln Riley and the offensive line coach.

I hope he keeps Riley as well, and don't understand why he wasn't named the OC if Tuberville is "wanting to keep the same offense."

I heard on the radio today (790 KFYO) that Tuberville will not keep Lincoln Riley. That was all they said and did not allude to any more details. It was just a quick news blurb between the hours.

He let all of the assistants go. I guess he could bring them back, but my guess he wants 100% loyalty going forward.
