So in back-to-back drafts, Dallas used midround picks on a safety and cornerback, and so did Seattle. The difference in those selections is one of the main reasons Dallas is desperate to get to the postseason while Seattle has thrived in it.

Now, as Seattle prepares to host Dallas on Sunday, Chancellor and Sherman will be going up against one of the many teams that bypassed them in the draft. Only the Cowboys bypassed them in favor of other players manning the same positions.

Well, at this point, it's academic. We got who we got, they got who they got. We'll show up suited up and ready to play. They will do the same. We'll see.........

Every team passed on both players including Seattle. The Seahawks didn't think either guy was worthy of a high draft pick.

There were other safeties drafted before Dallas or Seattle took their respective safeties. The same with corner back. Dallas was not the only team to bypass these guys in favor of other players manning the same position. That is just not factually correct.

People overestimate the value of a pick, and underestimate the value of scheme fit and good coaching over a couple of years. That said, it's interesting to see how a few moves (passing on Chancellor/Sherman for Ansah/Thomas) or the move up to pick Claiborne when we might otherwise have stayed put and gone Brokers/Wagner (who knows what really might have happened, but let's pretend) can readily make the difference between a relatively poor defense and a dominating one. That's to say that you can do a ton of things right in building a team in this league, and still the difference between success and failure can come down to just one or two mistakes. Just like in the games. It's kind of crazy how thin the line between real success and failure is in the NFL sometimes when you really think about it.

I am more happy where Dallas is at right now, than the "what could have beens" can ever dream up. We have played that game and theres more to it than their little window shows. I am glad Dallas has a better O line and a decent defense with a better coach. I have more faith that Rod can work with less and get mroe than I do if our offense was putrid. Callahan is good, and i appreciate him but Fred, Smith and Martin are unreal and i am happier with them.

You're so right but it seems like the Cowboys get beat over their heads with their mistakes more so than other teams. Remember we were the only team that passed on Randy Moss. And if Manziel ever becomes a good player...

The Cowboys technically passed on drafting Tom Brady. Yet I don't remember anyone ripping them for that.

I think the important thing is to learn from the mistakes you make. If the Cowboys are smart they will go back and look at what Seattle saw and what they saw and try to learn from that.

I don't think it is anything to be ashamed of when we bust on a pick just as long as we learn from it and move on.

I get that some of you are too sensitive for the exercise, but I sure hope the front office does this type of self-analysis.

How else do you improve except by analyzing past conduct in light of current knowledge?

That said, its hard to criticize a team for their passing on certain players in the later rounds. The deeper you get in the draft the more the crap shoot that it is. So although I appreciate the exercise, I believe shefter's focus is off. I would have concentrated on the missed opportunities in 2012. Those are really hurting us right now.

Unless one of these articles can make the Cowboys look like jokes, none will ever see the light of day.
