With Ezekiel Elliott's return, will Cowboys stick with two tailbacks?

Ezekiel Elliott's return throws another variable in the puzzle as the Cowboys construct their Week 16 active roster.

It's just so confusing to the coaching staff .. one guy goes one way .. the other guy goes the other way.

It's that whole two dimensional thinking requirement that trips them up. :D

I think the idea of point of attack is what confuses them.

I have wondered why this team does not run a two back set on occasion. Especially with Smith and Elliott since both can catch.
This is it... The formula.. We saw shades of it before Zeke went out on his little vacay.

90% zeke, 10% Rod freaking Smith

Do you see any teams do that?

Rod Smith could play FB but if he is not as good at FB as Keith Smith then they're losing something to do it.

I just had a vision of Harvey Korman and Tim Conway as Garrett and Linehan...

FOX NFL Today, Jay Glazer or whatever his name is. And if his info is correct.
He said the team plans to use him as the work horse still, but will monitor him the 1st 2 series. Se how he does, and if he is conditioned they will continue. But if not will keep him out on the 3rd series.

In other words, the same thing they did before he got suspended.

As far as seeing any team do that, there are innovations every year. Some subtle enough we may not recognize them.

My question is why not run a two back set at times, with both Smith and Elliot in the T formation. Especially on passing downs. Who is staying back to b;lock and who is leaking into the flat or running a shallow route? Plus the lead draw might work off this formation.

My personal; belief is if you don't see teams do this, then maybe this is ripe for gouging a defense.

It has been tried before. Herschel Walker and Tony Dorsett for a year.

I tend to think if something that obvious is not being used then there is likely a good reason for it.

I don't think it would affect the DL because they move based on seeing the handoff. Maybe the MLB could be delayed a step but they don't really make their decision until the handoff either bacause they have to stay back if it's a pass.

It might make sense on short yardage but the defense will be stacked up against the run and you're running into power with a FB that is not really a FB.

I wouldn’t be upset in the least if Morris was released.
