Ten players the Cowboys MUST keep
April, 12, 2010

By Calvin Watkins
The draft is two weeks away, remember it starts on a Thursday night, and all sorts of trade talk is going to pop up between now and then.

We give you 10 players the Cowboys must, MUST keep, no matter what a team offers them come draft day.

1. Tony Romo. He's the franchise.

2. DeMarcus Ware. Best defensive player in the game.

3. Jay Ratliff. Earned first All-Pro spot last year

4. Miles Austin. Cowboys need to see if he can be a Pro Bowler again.

5. Felix Jones. The future starter.

6. Anthony Spencer. Had a breakout 2009 season.

7. Mike Jenkins. Best cornerback on the team is coming off a Pro Bowl year.

8. Leonard Davis. Could play guard or tackle if necessary.

9. Andre Gurode. It's hard to grade linemen, but we know he's good.

10. Stephen Bowen. Might be the starting defensive end in 2010.

Yeah I'd move Witten up to 5 or 6 and bounce Bowen off the bottom...

NOT getting at OP, but honestly if someone started a thread with this as their opinion, I would be thinking why bother, but a journalist doing it.....wow. Money for nothing

As of right now Jenkins should be higher. You know how hard it is to find a good Corner?

Romo
Ware
Rat
Jenkins

No Witten? Guess he has Marty B penciled in for the Pro Bowl this year. List gets a little sketchy after number 7.

Where's Jason Witten?!

All due respect to my colleague Calvin Watkins, but it's a egregious omission to leave Jason Witten off the list of the top 10 players the Cowboys MUST keep.

We're talking about a 27-year-old who is arguably the best all-around tight end in the league. He's by far the best blocker among the elite pass-catching tight ends. He's Tony Romo's security blanket. He's the ultimate professional. He's locked up to a reasonable contract.

The Cowboys would be absolutely crazy to even consider getting rid of Witten. I'm wondering about my buddy Watkins' sanity after he left him off the list.

In fact, I'd put him third or fourth on the list.

Im surprised it took 12 posts before Wittens name even came up...any list without Witten on it is absolutely ********.

Watkins probably just forgot him.

I'd say he took all of 10 minutes to type that entry.

Actually, after giving this more thought, I can understand why Watkins wrote this article.

What? With all the potential Romo and Ware trade rumors that were out there, it was neccessary that he remind us that those are people we MUST keep.

We now know the other 43 players are expendable, however.
