Every d-lineman we start is a backup

That's an overreaction. I think you could say at DE we probably have mostly back up types but at DT, I think we are better off than people think.

I cannot imagine a scenario where this FO does not majorly address this defensive line in the off-season. If they don't I may have to fly to Frisco and personally start roundhousing the members of this coaching staff. Lol

Collins and Irving aren't... they both fade away at times but I believe that's because they have no help... we need starters...

pretty much

They've scored 30+ on every team but Houston(probably the best Defense in the league) typical Cowboy fan response though: Their defense must do what no other defense has ben capable of doing.. if they can't..Failures

Going into this game I knew we needed a quick start. Guns blazing on offense and defense. We needed to play from ahead. We have a habit of slow starts though. Our defense doesn't get energized until they've up at least one TD

Disagree, Collins is going to be be a star, Crawford is very underrated when healthy. Thornton is a very capable starting 1tech, but was beat out by Mcclain who had an excellent season. The Cowboys are in a great spot at DT but will need to replace Mcclain if he signs elsewhere. DE I agree with you, outside of Lawrence everyone else is a rotational guy. Lawrence I don't think will ever be a star, but we saw in 2015 that he can make an impact. If we get a disruptive RDE on the other side that would take everyones game up a notch.

Tackle is fine. Put Crawford and Irving back inside with Collins and Thornton. No worries there. End however is a complete dumpster fire. Not a legitimate player there anywhere. Need at least 3 ends this offseaosn

That's the definition of a backup. Ok in spurts but can't consistently play at the same level.

They are all backups at this point. Collins is a rookie so he may become starter material.

This is exactly right. This is a DLine that is lacking a star player. Collins, Crawford, Irving, McClain, Thornton, etc. are good rotation players and solid starters, they just need their Charles Haley. January 5th, 1992, divisional playoff game a QB by the name of Eric Kramer destroys our defense and we lose 38-6. We have a good draft, we trade for Haley and the next year they are the #1 defense. That 90's team had 7 to 8 solid rotation guys and one hall-of-famer. Why do you guys want to put us in a spot were we have to draft or sign 4 or 5 new guys?

I think Crawford and Irving go back inside and DLaw moves back to LDE, where he was dominant last year with across from a good RDE.

Don't get me wrong. This defense is average to below average. People bought into their PPG ranking and ignored more telling stats that indicated they were somewhat smoke and mirrors.

So they need to fix things, a lot of things. But claiming the entire DL needs an overhaul is a bit of a stretch.

Collins isn't a backup. Not sure the underrated T. Crawford is either.

No they are not backups; they are quality lineman.

The challenge is: they are not good enough to dictate the LOS against an average but sold o-line like the Packer's. Better talent is needed if Dallas expects to have success pressuring elite QBs without having to resort to blitzing.

I get that we need to improve on defense. Of that there is no doubt. We need at least one or two real playmakers on that side of the ball.

At the same time, sometimes games are just shootouts. GB gave up 31 points last night too. And they might still win the super bowl.

It's clear that they want to replicate the 90's championship teams of having a rotation. Irving and Collins are good parts of that rotation...maybe this era's version of Leon Lett and Jimmie Jones. Unfortunately, I don't see a Charles Haley-type player out there to be signed. And also, we had two very good rushers in Tolbert and Jeffcoat, which we also don't have right now.

So pretty much, this defense is still three quality rushers away from being good.

Collins isn't RIGHT NOW, but next year everyone of them could be replaced if they don't show something. That's how I'm doing it next year if I'm Jerry Jones. I'm bringing in a battalion of guys to compete, let the best men win.
