Everyone has it wrong about Garrett

This thread is a major fail...Garrett has been here for 9 years...it doesn't take 9 years to go from 0 to 100 in this league..so no matter how you want to spin it, he failed..he didn't start at 0 and he isn't even at 100 now..has there been areas that he has succeeded? Sure..but this spin job isn't accurate
I did my best @xwalker imitation and went back and charted it.

The last 30 coaches to make it to the NFCCG did it on average in 3.03 years from their hire date. We're still waiting for a conference championship appearance from Garrett after 8 seasons yet some are still making excuses for him.

When Garrett took over in 2010 as the head coach he inherited a listless 1-7 team lacking talent. He followed that with 3 8-8 seasons with teams again lacking in talent and unable to do much about it because of salary cap issues. Everyone seems to blame him for the lack of a Super Bowl but in fact he’s the one who turned this organization around. Jones put a lot of faith in Garrett because of his pedigree and intelligence. He had a plan and a vision on how to build a football team. He first focused on getting the right kind of players. I promise you he wanted nothing to do with Greg Hardy. Secondly he focused on building the team from the trenches out which is something you can’t do in one year with the salary cap issues he inherited. He stuck to his guns and build a solid team improving it every year. There were some bumps along the way with time management but you haven’t seen those in recent years. You can nick pick a time here or there but they can be argued both ways. He still needs to prove it in the playoffs but its obvious he’s put together a young team, built from the trenches out and wins. Let’s see what happens this year.

So why isn't Garrett calling plays? Why was Moore brought in instead of giving it back to Garrett? Why did Jerry tell Garrett to stay out of the way?

And voila...the facts

I've defended Garrett way more than I've criticized him, but your post is NOT remotely how things have transpired.

Will McClay and Stephen Jones have built the roster.
One reason McClay was hired and is so successful at his job is because he has been able to bridge the gap between scouts and coaches. I'm not sure I'm arguing a strong point here just noting that it's not like Garrett and his staff have had no say in talent acquisition. I'm not trying to overstate their involvement either, if that makes any sense.

One thing I've admired about their approach the past few years is that they sort of restarted the trend of building behind a ball-control offense with a stout running game. Everyone else was going pass happy, and they were trying to zig while the rest of the league zagged. They've had some success with that approach, just not the top of the mountain success everyone ultimately wants.

It's funny because the ball-control route was a necessity with a crappy defense in order to keep them in games. In 2014 and 2016, they couldn't play with more tempo if they wanted to because their D would get too exposed. I think one reason they are more comfortable going with Moore, and opening up the offense now is because the defense should be able to hold its own weight, finally.

You've since seen other teams mirror this offensive approach with varying levels of success. Jacksonville and Tennessee are two prime examples.

You're good peoples Rocky. I hope to visit down there soon, once the temperature starts to cool off. Visit the old haunts...
And I totally get what you're saying.

Garrett inherited some good players and after a little retooling had them in the conference playoffs. Came up short in Greenbay, but was primed for another run the following year when the tragedy that was Romo occurred.

Everything was geared toward Romo, including the hiring of Lenahan. It took a while to move on, but making change for change sake never seems to work. When Kellen Moore emerged as a viable replacement the team recognized the possibilites and made a good decision.

This team's on the rise. Garrett's a leader. Call him what you want (walk around coach, the clapper), but he's done a great job and I hope he's around for a while. Go Cowboys!

The real question will be, can the Pizza Boy coach so well that it will outweigh The Clapping Carrot's lack of adjustments when he is up against real coaches in crunch time.

Things began to change when Stephen and will mcclay started running things. I give Garrett little credit. He derailed Callahan being OC. He brought in a senile monte and a useless scat linehan. He fired frank Pollack and brought in Paul alexander. Now all personnel decisions and coaching hires are being done by Stephen. Garrett is just standing on the sideline watching the show.

Can't believe Garrett fans are still using that "1-7 team" bit nine years after the fact.

Funny but no game in that 1 - 7 run was lost by more than 7 points. The Romo went down and the Jacksonville game ended 35-17 followed by a ridiculous 45-7 lost to Green Bay.

But things got better. We never scored less than 26 until the last game when we eeked by Philly 14-13.
Still the offense was 7th in points scored (394) while the (Paul Pasqualoni's) defense was a paltry 31st allowing 436 points

And since I looked it up the all pros were Miles (flash in the pan) Austin, 32 year old Andre Gourode, and Witten on offense. Defense had Ware, .Jay Ratliff, and punter Matt McBriar.

Garrett finally realized that the team was better off with him just being a head coach. Some are man enough to be able to admit their mistakes.
