Everyone seems OK with the loss... Im not

Sorry you are taking the loss so hard. Maybe some meds will help you to cope. I on the other hand enjoyed this season. Was alot of fun and i was proud of how far they got. Was a tough game and i knew it would be. Heres to next season!

Like I said earlier, the 1991 team was far from great, and it ended the season in a blowout embarrassment. This year's team probably would have beaten that team handily if they had met in the playoffs.

Even though that team lost 38-6 in the playoffs, it came back the next season, added A LOT of players and took another step forward. There's no reason this year's team can't take another step forward next season, too. We have a lot of great players in their prime and a lot of young guys on the verge of becoming stars or who just became stars (Austin, Felix, Jenkins and Spencer, to name a few). How good can we be if those guys play all next season like they did in the second half of this season? Good enough to compete for the Super Bowl? Of course we could. The Saints were a last-place team one year ago, and now they're hosting the NFC title game. The Vikings went 10-6 and lost their wild-card game by double digits. The Colts didn't win their division, then lost their wild-card game. The Jets didn't even make the playoffs. None of those teams last year were closer to competing for a Super Bowl than we are today, but they all took a big step forward this year. We did, too, and now we need to take another one next year.

What i'm scared of is not being able to use the offensive players correctly and adjust mid-game. Maybe im just tired of waiting on the learning curve.
I wanted to ask you a question though honestly Adam, not bein smart at all, just looking for your opinion. In your opinion, do you think we could we perform as well as we did this year or better offensively if we brought in a new offensive coordinator? I know its a hypotheitcal, so if you dont want to speculate its all good.

Yes, I do think we could, and that doesn't mean we'd have to fire Garrett. If he left of his own choice and we replaced him with a good coach who has a similar system, I don't see any reason why we couldn't. I'd say our offensive success (such as it was) has more to do with talent than with scheme.

I agree.....this team is more talented and would beat that team

Watching the Cowboys in 1991 you knew something special was brewing after that Chicago playoff win with Emmitt, Aikman and Irvin, not to mention Jimmy Johnson.

Can anyone honestly say they have that same feeling with this team, coached by Wade Phillips?

I know some people have a glass half-full mentality and look for silver linings in another end of the season, blow-out, embarrassment but comparing this team and this franchise to the 1991 budding dynasty is crazy talk.
When will you get the point that we are not, repeat not saying that the
1991 team equals the 2009 Cowboys. It's utterly amazing that you are unable to comprehend this basic fact. Not all comparisons are going to fit 100%. At any rate if people were talking dynasty backin 1991, posters, not unlike yourself, would be saying this team is not like the Cowboys in the 1970's etc...

It was not a given that greatness would follow that 1991 team the following year. You know where we were projected to finish in 92? 3rd place behind Washington and Philly. Super Bowl talk centered around those 2 teams plus the Niners as the NFC rep in the Super Bowl. Nobody knew we were "destined" for "something special in 92. I am sick and tired of that myth being propagated

This team is still young with the exception of the OL which will be the focus of retooling this offseason. They improved over last season and Wade came back this year and did whgat his detractors after last year said he couldn't do: get the team back to the top of the division and win a playoff game. So now people are saying Wade can't do this that or the other with the team.

You don't know this. Wade and this team proved people wrong on some things this year. Why can't they progress next year? People didn't "know" we were going to win 3 Super Bowls in 4 years.

Don't act as if those of us who hold out hope for this team are crazy.

After seeing all that destruction and poverty in Haiti just a few days earlier and Gaines Adams dead at 26, I'm ok with the loss.

They made it to the playoffs. They won a playoff game. They just ran into a rested team that clicked on all cylinders at home. And no major injuries to any Cowboy. They provided me with a great amount of enjoyment this year. They gave everything they had. You can't win them all.

Thank you Cowboys. Good luck next season.

The diference is most the core has been there already under Bill and the Seattle lost then the the following year with the Giants, then we missed the playoffs so this should be 92 because the core has been there

This isn't the same core that was here in 2006, and a lot of the guys who are the same were just getting started in 2006. Romo is still developing as a quarterback and is about to enter his prime, Witten is just reaching his prime, Ware is just reaching his prime, Ratliff is just reaching his prime, and guys like Austin, Jenkins, Spencer and Felix were considered busts DURING this season before emerging. This isn't the 2006-07 team trying to hold onto its window of opportunity, this is the 2009 team just entering that window.

The teams aren't being compared, it's the situations...basically what happened in '91 (Cowboys vastly improve, but get blown out in playoff game after winning one) is being compared to now.

We all know what happened after that season in '91.

I also remember Nate Newton telling everyone after they arrived back in Dallas after the game that they were going to win the Super Bowl next season. I think the team realized how great they could become. Maybe we'll see this again.

Jerry and Steven need to take a couple of days off and just forget about football. Then they can come back fresh and objectively analyze both the coaching staff and the roster and what needs to be done to get better for next year.

The worst thing to do is to make big decisions in the heat of the moment, especially if emotions are involved. Thats when the biggest mistakes are made, they need a clear head and base decions off logic and not emotions.

I am not Ok with it. This is a sport and a business. I don't get married to the coaches, sorry just not me. Jerry has been patient but he has to make a move. HEADS NEED TO ROLL. This was a very embarrassing loss. The final was 34-3. 34-3 Really? Are you kidding me 34-3? We laid down like dogs, we were destroyed and there are zoners who want to talk about their sentimental feelings for the coaching staff. That attitude is the exact reason why we lost the way we did. You are content with a playoff win, why? Cuz the media said so? Because we have not won a playoff game in 13 years? Who cares, really. What matters is THIS game and our weakness in coaching and personnel were EXPLOITED. Poor O-Line play, very questionable play calling, and a HC/OC power struggle showed its face. You think the locker room is fine and dandy? Can't be. It's better without T.O. and the convicts but all is not well. Hey you guys want to stay positive? FINE, then let's make the necessary changes to progress the team to a championship team and lets get real about it.

We were beat today like the Giants beat us in 2007. We were beat today like we PHI beat us last year. We have problems when we get behind and we have problems with good front fours. It's unacceptable to me as a fan to get beat in this fashion with the talent we have on the football field (this is a coaching problem, sorry). Winning the NFC east means nothing when you play like we did today. TODAY is what matters and we leave the season a badly beaten football team, this was a blowout. We lost our fight in game to advance to the NFC Championship, how does that happen? Losing like this... in this kind of game is NOT ACCEPTABLE anymore. Im sick of the excuses (oh we won a playoff game last week). We were punched in the mouth today and we did not punch back, that bothers me JG. Attitude is everything. IF we accept defeat because of past accomplishments then we have the attitude of losers which was what we had today. HOW EMBARRASSING.

Buy the team, then fire everyone.

I'm not gonna lie. I'm fuggin pissed. PISSED. But the general trend here and at Valley Ranch seems to be toward tranquil acceptance of defeat and a satisfied retreat into the off season, so I'm not gonna say nothing. It won't change anything, anyway. Just put some ointment on that poop chute and better luck next year. I know what needs to be done, but I also know it won't be done.

1st off I think some of the old school fans are starting to become numb to losing, consequently, you don't see the outrage as it used to be when we lost. We've lost for so long now, it's now acceptable.

We aren't calling for the QBs head, or other great players head, or the Head Coach's head, or Owner's head like we used to, we used to spit fire when we had a losing season. Now we get happy just to win a stinking play off game, and even worse, we make excuses why we lost and excuses for players who took part in it.

It's pathetic, and I for one will never EVER EVER, be happy or satisfied with getting our tails spanked in the play offs or any part of the season, so yes I want heads to roll, people cut, fired, within reason of course.

But this team can't stay the way it is because not only are we not as good as the teams left in the play offs, but other teams behind us will get better so we CONSTANTLY have to make changes until this thing is ready to compete with the best.

I agree 100%. Too many people drank the kool-aide served with our 4 game win streak. During that time the team was MOTIVATED. Yesterday it was the Vikings who were motivated and thus kicked our butts. Wade has failed miserably at motivating this team for most of this season and last year. When we played motivated for the 4 game win streak we could have beaten anyone. This team has the talent but the window will be closing unless we get a coach in here to keep this team motivated. I pray that Jerry didn't drink too much kool-aide and realizes this. When we play motivated the sky is the limit!!!

I'm not OK with it, but when you get dominated that bad you're just resigned to the fact that minnesota was the superior team.

I am bummin big time. Normally play a ton of Madden but no desire anymore. Moving on to my next favorite team, the Yanks. :(:(

The point is that you don't make a decision based off one bad loss in the playoffs. You have to look at the progress of the team in its entirety. Are we better off than we were last year? Are we better off than we were at the beginning of this year? Are we better of than we were halfway through this season? Is the team in position to be better next season? Those are the questions on which you base your decisions, not a bad game in the playoffs.

Agreed.

I made this point in a thread last week about what would allow Wade to get his extension etc.

I have to tell you, while I agree and undestand this thought process. I simply dont know if we are truly any better because of our stretch down the end.

Do we take that chance and end up the same next year. 11-5 or so and one playoff win and then go home?

or

Do we get rid of garbage players and turn coaching staff upside down in hopes of getting it on track in a year or two.

Tough call - I am just glad Jerry is making it:eek::rolleyes:

I hear you AsklesKo, the sentiment seems like this: Well we won 4 games in a row ya know, and we won a playoff game ya know, and the blowout is the like the '91 game vs Detroit ,so I'm OK with the loss. We'll just retool and win it next year.

I'M SURE 30 OTHER TEAMS WILL RETOOL AS WELL. NEVER BE OK WITH A BLOWOUT LOSS, EVER.

I guess I missed the posts, granted I haven't read them all, where anyone said they were Ok with the loss.
