Ex-Charger Weddle lists factors to job hunt
Former Bolts All-Pro safety seeks Super Bowl contender
By Tom Krasovic | 4 p.m. Feb. 18, 2016
On the day he cleared out his locker at Chargers Park last month, Eric Weddle listed the factors that will determine where he will resume his career.
"Who wants me, No. 1," Weddle said.
High on his list as well is a team's on-field potential.
"In the next three or four years," he told the Blog, "are they going to be competitive, are they going to be division winners, are we going to have a chance at the Super Bowl?"
Weddle, who completed a five-year, $40-million contract this past season, is free to sign with another team in March. Both Weddle and Chargers General Manager Tom Telesco have said it's likely time to part ways.
A San Bernardino County native who played for Utah and joined the Chargers in 2007, Weddle said the location of potential employers won't be a factor, adding that his wife and four children are "excited" about where the job search will lead.
He ticked off other ingredients to the decision.
"The division, where they see me fitting, how can I help? will I be what they want? is it a good fit?" he said. "I think I can play any scheme so that’s not really an issue."
