Get him ready to go the way of the infamous Matt Johnson, Isaac Stanbeck, AOA, and all of the rest of our smart front office reaches.

If you can't see what Jerry & Jason are building I don't know what to tell you

too lazy to invest as a fan? Or would rather coat tail to the tar and bucket brigade?

There are a lot of things to like about this defense...and it is young.

Are you referring to the biggest defensive addition since Charles Haley?

Yes. I watched six games of his tape and I firmly believe we stole his services.

I agree. Losing Sean Lee now allows us to get Anthony Hitchens ready.

It's good to see a little luck go our way for a change.

You are so negative. Losing Sean Lee allowed us to get stud MLB Rolando McClain. If Lee stays healthy, we do not pull that heist off.

Whenever you two are done stroking eachother's ego, or what have you, that would be great.

This reminds me of the FAN who said Lee's injury could be a blessing in disguise and that he was a progress stopper. LOL

anyone excited about this defense needs his head examined.

I'm excited to see individual players.

I don't expect the overall defense to be great this year, but I firmly believe that they can develop a defensive roster that is much better by the end of this season that what they had last season.

My expectation is for them to find answers at a few positions. At the beginning of free agency this year (after releasing Ware) they only had 2 or 3 positions that looked solid and 1 of those was MLB with Lee who we knew was likely to get injured. At the beginning of FA next year, I would like to see that situation improved to the point that they could realistically put the finishing touches on a solid defensive roster by using free agency and another draft.

It would be exciting to see some players on defense develop like Leary did on offense. Coming into training camp last year the OL was up in the air and we had no idea what to expect from a player like Leary. He ended up starting from day 1 and was shaky initially, but developed into a very solid player by the end of the season. I enjoyed watching his development regardless of the team's win /loss record. Can 2nd year players like Wilcox and Holloman duplicate Leary's success? Can a rookie like Lawrence (#34 overall) match the performance of Frederick (#31 overall) last season?

You know someone is in desperate search for some optimism when they title a thread "Excited about Defense" and say that losing our best defensive player may work in our favor. I've been following the Cowboys since the 72 season and can't recall the team losing their 3 best players on one side of the ball during an offseason. When Marinelli looks at what he has on defense he must be laying awake at night wondering how he's going to keep Jerry from making his 3rd DC change in as many years.

He could call Fat Rob in New Orleans for some pointers if the guy could ever stop laughing.

That was such an awful decision to switch schemes. That has Jerry stank all over it.

I really think losing Lee is his only concern. He loves Melton and I'm certain that he's not worried about him replacing Hatcher. Ware's backups played a large number of snaps and Ware's effectiveness was reduced when he did play due to injuries. The Cowboys specifically targeted DE Mincey in free agency and Marinelli seemed very excited about Lawrence. He probably sees the combination of Lawrence/Mincey as better than the combination of an Injured Ware/Everette Brown/Wilber/Wynn. My guess is that including the games he missed, that Ware only played about 40% of the total defensive snaps for the season.
