It is impressive that the longer Ware is gone how much more insignificant he becomes.

We can just replace him with a couple of bodies. Not a big deal.

A year ago people would take exception if there was a simple suggestion he was falling off .

I really think losing Lee is his only concern. He loves Melton and I'm certain that he's not worried about him replacing Hatcher. Ware's backups played a large number of snaps and Ware's effectiveness was reduced when he did play due to injuries. The Cowboys specifically targeted DE Mincey in free agency and Marinelli seemed very excited about Lawrence. He probably sees the combination of Lawrence/Mincey as better than the combination of an Injured Ware/Everette Brown/Wilber/Wynn. My guess is that including the games he missed, that Ware only played about 40% of the total defensive snaps for the season.

I assume you've read this from him or are you speaking for him? He's just someone looking for some hope in what could be a hopeless situation defensively. Don't know what he could love about Melton he's coming off an ACL and has only 2 sacks in his last 13 starts. After 4 seasons he only has 15.5 career sacks. He's a downgrade over Hatcher who had developed into a solid player. Melton may not even be full go once camp starts. Ware's effectiveness was reduced due to injuries but he still had to be accounted for. Who on the Cowboys defense scares anyone now? There's not one player on the defense opponents have to game plan for. As for Mincey the Cowboys are his 4th team he's been in decline since his 8 sacks in 2011. He's had 5 sacks the past 2 seasons and Denver who's looking to improve their defense dumped him during the offseason.

As for Marinelli being very excited about Lawrence how else is he suppose to react to him? The Cowboys used a 2nd round pick on him and even Jerry admitted they overpaid to move up for him because he was such a need. It's when you have a real need at a position that you can make a mistake. Charley Casserly didn't seem very excited about Lawrence. He said from the film he watched of him he wasn't all that impressed. He said he didn't see him making a lot of plays. He did say he played faster than he timed and could be a good situational player but his opinion didn't sound very encouraging. That doesn't mean Lawrence won't end up being a good player we'll just have to see how things play out but I'm not sold on the talent or the scheme.

And given how this organization has performed in the last 17 years, it is a service.

Now give me a like.

Two likes for this? I have to bleed for every "like" I receive and have to tolerate being called a bad fan in the process. And even then I have to sweat hoping someone will agree with me.

We're in year 4 of the building process. I can't wait for training camp so we can discuss what we've built here...................

I'm excited to see individual players.

I don't expect the overall defense to be great this year, but I firmly believe that they can develop a defensive roster that is much better by the end of this season that what they had last season.

My expectation is for them to find answers at a few positions. At the beginning of free agency this year (after releasing Ware) they only had 2 or 3 positions that looked solid and 1 of those was MLB with Lee who we knew was likely to get injured. At the beginning of FA next year, I would like to see that situation improved to the point that they could realistically put the finishing touches on a solid defensive roster by using free agency and another draft.

It would be exciting to see some players on defense develop like Leary did on offense. Coming into training camp last year the OL was up in the air and we had no idea what to expect from a player like Leary. He ended up starting from day 1 and was shaky initially, but developed into a very solid player by the end of the season. I enjoyed watching his development regardless of the team's win /loss record. Can 2nd year players like Wilcox and Holloman duplicate Leary's success? Can a rookie like Lawrence (#34 overall) match the performance of Frederick (#31 overall) last season?

That is the thing that the Rising Star and Alexander's of the world can't see.

Yep, our D was bad last year. Really bad. With Ware. With Hatcher. And with Lee part of the year. What would have been the point of bringing them all back, at a much higher cost this year considering we would have had to pay Hatcher $$$? The guys that do nothing but post sarcastic snarky comments tell us that doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome is moronic, yet it seems that is what they would prefer Dallas to do. We weren't getting it done WITH those guys, and it really wasn't just an issue last year as it has gone on really for the last three years....we haven't had good defenses with Ware, Hatcher and Lee in a long time. In points, our last 4 years we have been 26, 24, 16 and 31. In yards, we have been 32, 19, 14 and 23. That's a pretty bad 4 years defensively.

The last couple of years, we have tried different things in the draft....like building an OL with early draft picks. Adding some red zone weapons in Williams and Escobar. On offense, we still go as Romo goes, but we are building an offense that would be very helpful for a game manager to be effective in....good OL that is able to run and pass protect. So we are building for the future QB after Romo even as we are building a defense.

Our defense has a couple vets that are here to play roles in a defense until we can add the pieces we need. Mincey, McClain and Carr. If Claiborne can prove that he can play, then Carr becomes expendable. If Lawrence is more than just a pass rusher then Mincey is a short term insurance policy. If Crawford shows why the team was excited about him coming into last season, then McClain is just a part of the rotation. If Holloman and Wilcox make a jump in year two...we are that much closer to having a D with young, good talent. There is youth all over the defense...with Wilbur, Carter, Hamilton and a few others whose final outcome hasn't been determined yet. If we can get an unexpected find in Bishop or Gardner, we are one player closer to building a better defense. Hitchens, Dixon and all might be part of the answer.

And yes, we are expecting a lot from Marinelli. He has become the whipping boy for the "likes collector". It's not just fans that think he is a pretty good coach. It's former players and other coaches that speak so highly of his ability to mainly get better production out of guys that maybe haven't lived up to their potential.

Dallas started a rebuilding project when Garrett was brought on board without saying as much. It's clear though....a lot of old talent has gone away. We haven't embraced free agency as a quick fix like we did in the past. We are trying a new way...which is very much like the old way of the last Cowboys dynasty. Great OL, weapons at WR and TE, a good running game and a defense that attacked in waves. It's what the current blueprint looks like but the construction still isn't complete...but it's getting there.

He could call Fat Rob in New Orleans for some pointers if the guy could ever stop laughing.

That was such an awful decision to switch schemes. That has Jerry stank all over it.

Rob should call Jerry and the first thing Jerry hears when he picks up the phone is Rob laughing while he's chomping on some Cajun chicken.

too lazy to invest as a fan? Or would rather coat tail to the tar and bucket brigade?

There are a lot of things to like about this defense...and it is young.

Lol you make 0 sense bruh. Keep trying though.

Maybe they are one of them con-joined Siamese/Chinese twins?

They prefer co-joined little people

I think the guy with those screen names is a Commanders fan that's here undercover to try to make everybody miserable.

Now we just need an injury to Romo before the season starts.

We need to know if Weeden's capable of being at least a bus driver.
