I’m excited that we are likely to have a new, improved different approach than what we had under Kellen Moore.
Excited that it will new offensive minds at hand in McCarthy and Schottenheimer for the RBs, .

One of my pet peeve with Kellen was his limitation as far as the RBs were concerned. Seems like Kellen hated RB screens. He did not have
the patience with them, did not try to develop them, and make them a legit weapon vs defenses.

As a result, Kellen actually helped the opposing defense.
Never caught them off guard as such... Never making them pay for blitzing and over-pursuit.
Defenses did not have to worry about RBs hurting them in pass game. We resorted to mere dump offs safety valve – if even that.

- The Pollard wheel route TD vs Vikes was one of the rare exceptions this year.

- What I do worry is if McCarthy ..( or the Jones?) is they feel we need the Thunder and Lightning approach- instead of having two Splash RBs.

Would our club imagine i(insist?) that we have to have:
- Mark Ingram – Alvin Kamara
- Marion Barber – Felix Jones
- A.J. Dillion/ Aaron Jones

- As a thought and result, we'd be working a reduced contract to keep Zeke Elliott, ..instead of moving on to a splash RB.

There is a absolutely no reason to keep Zeke around which is precisely the reason why this FO will keep him on the roster.

When i hear Jerry go interview as "..Zeke shows up more than just Stats " ... that alone gives me concerns for pause that we maybe aiming to keep ZKE around, for the sake of
favors and good ole buddy pats on the back, locker room charisma.

- I've seen it happen with DE Tyrone Crawford the last two useless years when he was being knocked all over the ground.
But we still gave him near 18 million dollars.

Any plan to keep Zeke is a stupid one, in my opinion.

If Pollard were to be injured,.. where would our Splash plays then come from ?

The 2016 zeke would be zoom- gone in a blink of an eye...whether run play or RB screen... but this version lumbers and sometimes so slow it's painful to watch.
I'm not batching ZKE, but game tape shows it.
Where he comes up big is goal line ... when he runs low and hard, with that tremendous lower leg drive power- plus he has a knack for the goal line. Very difficult to stop.

But if its' not the goal line,..

-It's expected that they are going to tag Pollard and will be working on a pay cut for Zeke, however, how much of a paycut will Zeke accept? My guess he plays somewhere else next season, but we cannot rule him out returning just yet.

-Look at the Cowboys recent history, they usually have had one power back, with one home run type: you mentioned Barber/Felix, we had Murray/Randle and most recently Zeke/Pollard. To answer your question, I think they will be looking to add more of a power back to complement Pollard. Doesn't mean that back won't possess big play ability, but one who can also get the dirty yards.

-If Bijian Robinson fell to 26, he is going to become a Cowboy, but they can also wait and take advantage of the depth. Knowing how they prioritize the position, they most likely will draft one, inside the top 3 rounds. I really like Zach Carbonnet from UCLA, many compare him to D'Marco Murray. Why not draft multiple backs, can also find a similar skillset to Pollard, guy like Spears from Tulane in rd 4.

I don't care if Zeke said he will play for free, it's time to move on. I'm sure the team loves him, and I get he is Dak's BFF, but life goes on. Time to shake up the backfield. Keep Pollard and get some fresh legs back there. Dak and Zeke can Facetime each other.

Legit concern, but it's starting to sound as if Zekes pay cut may be too significant for his agents to swallow.

Zeke may be ok with a pay cut, but his agents may not be, as it cuts into their fees. :muttley:

I doubt that they keep Zeke. The draft is too deep at running back. Would you want 1 year of Zeke or 4 years of Gibbs or Charbonnet?

Mine would come from Gibbs and Spears or 2 other talented rookies that could be had in this draft.

i wouldn't be surprised if McClay did a re-do of drafting a RB in the mid-rounds ..4th round, ala as they did with Pollard.
But I don't at all see drafting multiple RBs in the same draft ..unless it's a 7th round/special teams oriented developmental project guy.

Frankly i don't recall " Meat on da Bone " John Randle seeing the field behind Murray, as we flat out bell cow pounded Murray into the ground (typical Garrett.. !! )
i thought it was the injured prone Lance Dunbar. What a colossus mistake for us to bypass the NFL draft and promote Randle as the featured guy (post-Murray, pre-ZKE)

Just release Zeke. Don’t even waste time talking cut. Let’s hope the duo can get this obvious decision right.

It wouldn't surprise me if they drafted 2 running backs this year.

Moore lost me when he said we did not run wide because defenses were too fast.
I am like, what?

Pollard is not the answer at RB as a full time starter.
Yet we can’t really lose him. Tough spot.

That’s why the tag is the best bet. A little pricey, but they can manage.

(And I also very much don’t want to see him leave here before he is used the right way in the passing game)

I’d also draft one early, one late, and Davis is good enough to hang around.

Four deep. Fresh legs.
