The past few seasons leading up to the draft I have stated that I was not really as excited as I used to be. As the draft drew closer I was a little more excited.

This year however I have been excited for some time, not just as it got close.

We really don't know how it will play out.

We are at a position where we might trade up or down. We don't know if there will be players we really like in the first that will be there at 27.

We see they have had a number of RB and CB visits that make us think one of those two will be our pick in the first or second.

However that seems to be strong interest in Kendricks with multiple visits/talks

Just makes it very fun and exciting this year with the speculation.

I will also say at this time there is not one of those...ooooooh please don't take this turd, kind of players going into this draft so far...I mean a player like Johnny Football who I would have been really upset if we had taken him even though others were upset that we did not.

No player like Alberta Haynesworth in the past that I did not want us taking in the first and so on.

There are players I would rather not take in the first but not anyone that has projected to us that I absolutely hate...well not yet anyway.

Just exciting year this year.

You're on a roll today. Good post. With the success of last year, this draft add's to that excitement. Could a couple of these players put us in the SB?? Draft can't get here soon enough, but then before we know it, it's Sunday and it's all over.:)

I am really bored today. Not much happening at work.

Can you tell?

I was just thinking it was odd for me that I'd be happy with several of them. About the only thing I want to avoid is over drafting one. Lots of good backs out there, and it's really just a question of picking the one that fits what we might want to do the next few years the best. Do we want the best replacement for Demarco Murray? Do we want a bigger back? Another one-cut guy? Or a guy with experience in a zone blocking offense? Lots of directions we can go, and lots of good RBs this year. We're going to end up with somebody decent if we use that 2nd or 3rd round pick. Maybe even in the 4th or 5th rounds.

I try not to harp on that stuff anymore. The scouting guides are great information and as a fan Im very appreciative of the work Bruger, Rang, Horton, Mayock, and Bunting (pouring out a lil liquor ) have given but there rankings and tierings ( if that is a word) are not something to really go by.

I may get annoyed if I felt they overdrafted a guy, drafted someone I did feel was a good fit ( or good at all) passed on someone I wanted or drafted a Matt Johnson Ive never heard. But at the end of the day, they are all Cowboys and I hope for the best.

At a forum I used to post at, we had a poster who created at least 1 thread a week predraft 2010 of why he didnt want us to draft Dez Bryant. And then spent a whole year talking about how we should have drafted Roger Saffold instead until he got banned. FYI he is a current Zone poster who has been inactive for past month. Its just worth that much of a headache to me

Ted Ginn sure looked like a player in college, though. We all have those guys. Pet cats that get into the league and go feral on us.

I'm very excited about the draft. It's just a fascinating event for a casual fan or a draftnik. From my perspective(not a draftnik, but the scales lean more that way) I love to see where players are actually drafted to where they were projected, and where I thought they would go. It also gives people a vested interest in the players. I keep an eye on pet cats to see how they do in the league.

At the end of the day, I may not like a pick when it's turned in, or a trade up or trade down may not seem like the best thing to do to me, but I will root for them from the end of the draft on.

I too am excited about the upcoming draft, i know in the back of my mind that the time is getting closer, ive become numb to all the scouting and mock drafts out there, so ive been trying to block it all out of my mind, so that time will hurry up and pass by.

its going to be interesting to see what happens with Tennessee @ 2, what Cleveland and New Orleans do with their 2 first rounders, Will Philly mortgage everything to move up for Mariota, and of course what happens with Gurley and last but not least what happens at #27.

I really think it all depends on his health, i havent heard one way or another if he would be ready by the season opener, if he's not and would require some team to have to start him on the pup list, i believe he will be there at 27.

I think it's very likely that he starts on the Pup list. 9 months will be near the end of August. I think if he's a go on game 1, it will be with very little work in training camp and could very well be a mistake. The odds say he's much more likely not to be AP with his recovery, then to be AP. Even if the medicals show he's healing and should make a full recovery, I still have my doubts he plays game 1.

I am hoping for a high profile pick at 27, but am ready for a boring pick in a position of need. I will try to be excited over a CB when I hope for a top-teir RB or DE

That's a lot of excitement in a single post for an older guy. What's the secret?

;)

On a more serious note, I feel as though it's more up in the air than usual, which has fueled more speculation .... and excitement.

I always get excited for the draft but after the season we had it feels like we are a few picks away from winning it all. I hope we make the right moves and take that leap forward.

Like most here, it's great to speculate about players - where they would fit with us, chances of dropping/rising etc. Will it be a cornerback ? Will they go DE, where will they pull the trigger on a RB.
I think what adds to the excitement is how well they have been drafting lately, so no-matter who they select - esp. in 1st/2nd rounds we will give the team some benefit of doubt.
I still don't feel like we are one draft away from a SB, but rather, that this year is a building block to that goal. Shore up some spots, keep moving forward. After next years draft, I hope to be on that bandwagon.
The one big head scratcher to me is DT. I mean, if they take a corner at 27 I'm OK with that, if they take a DE - well OK.... LBer - benefit of doubt goes to McClay - you get the picture.
But the perceived lack of interest in a DT 1-tech OR 3-tech, is a head scratcher. Either they really don't feel we need one at all, or its a great sell job by the FO. No visits, no word of interest in any of the prospects. Seems baffling to me that they could not use better talent up front, I get the " official party line" we don't value the 1-tech position. But that seems like it is counter productive to me .... I guess this is where all the good will that has been built up lately will come into play.

Will be watching and waiting to see how it all plays out.
BTW - have a new girlfriend this year, and already told her I'm not available draft weekend .... me, the couch, some food, the TV and my lap top - I'll be a happy man.
