Why are all these elite pass rushers getting traded?

Bad teams draft high. They get the top blue chip players. We all know this.

Then when that players, nor the rest of the team steps up to put the team in the contenders discussion. Eventually the team will trade them as they eventually pay too much. Then trade them to a contender or a team that is near being a contender, therefore at times giving them a huge contract.

Garrett traded with a big contract, but Rams gave up a lot. But they are very close to getting back to a SB. Therefore made the trade.
Parsons traded, but GB gave up 2 1st round picks, and a former 1st round pick. Then gave a huge contract.

Rams again mortgaged the future for a chance at a SB. But gave up a lot of picks and a young very good player in Verse.
GB has not been able to do anything in FA, the draft, and lost 6 other FA's as well.
Theses 2 teams going in the opposite direction the season it seems.

Dallas with the trade seem to be going in the right direction. And the media are higher on them so much more than usual.
Fans - Some are up, some are cautiously optimistic (show us on the field) some are .. meh, not changing opinion yet.

I just want football to start already.

Doubtful he would have been signed by all those 31other teams. And Micah was as much reason for the drama as Jerry.
Now would there been as much drama, probably not. But there still would have been issues with signing him for what he and his agent wanted.

Issues so bad that the Packers were able to come to agreement within days of being able to discuss terms with his agent.
The market is set for the top guys. It's always a pay raise over the last previously top 5 paid guy. The cap explosion since 2022 means there's an extra 20-30mil a season the following year for the ceiling.

Sure, is there blame on Micah/David? I'm sure. But there's been one consistent player in the Cowboys contract dragged out negotiations when it comes to players, and that's on Jerry and Stephen.

I don’t see a connection

Edge is a more premium position than DT and finding an elite pass rusher is hard to find

The Rams took on massive dead money hit on a rookie contract player and brought in one of the highest paid Edges in the game.

I don’t think they did that to save money.
I think that's a falsehood. I think DT is much more important than edge rusher. Not by you, BTW, by those who just love to rate such things.

The Rams, BTW, have a dominant front 3. That's why they wanted Myles Garrett. Garrett is a game changer, way better than most on here realize. He's not called the best D player in the NFL just for fun.

The trade and contract negotiations could have been ongoing for some time. And probably was. It was not like GB or Jerry picked up the phone and say, sure I agree to this within days.
Not for 2 #1's, a former #1 pick, and $47 million a year.

I don't think a 1,2,3 is a lot for his caliber of player.

Age + huge cap hits

Micah is in his prime. Elite.

Micah was traded because Jerry couldn’t convince him to take a cheaper deal, tried to cut out the agent.

Got butt hurt and made the trade.

Terrible.

Per Glazer, the Cowboys a week before Parsons public request were shopping him, preferably to an AFC team.

"They started putting feelers out," Glazer said. "They were shocked; they could not get any traction anywhere from an AFC team."

Glazer added that the Eagles made the biggest offer, which included two first-round picks and third- and fifth-round picks. Dallas was unwilling to trade Parsons within the NFC East, however.

The Packers entered the sweepstakes early and were persistent, Glazer noted, and their willingness to part with defensive tackle Kenny Clark "is what made the difference for Dallas."

So, let's say the end of July was when the Packers had some formal discussions with the Cowboys.Say at the same time they allowed the Packers GM to discuss terms with David M. That would be 1 month before the actual trade, if they were going full steam ahead on both sides. However, I find that unlikely until later when Dallas noticed no AFC with strong offers.
Or was it until the Packers floated the idea of Clark being included did they allow the Packers to discuss terms with Parsons agent?
So 1 month at most gets the job done, vs March 2024 till August of 2025, or 17 months- the earliest time when Dallas could of discussed terms.

I find it interesting that now the Cowboys don’t have an Edge that is pro bowl level, let alone elite, we see the daily comment that Edge rushers are not only unnecessary for a championship, but could be a negative because they are so pricey.

When we had an elite Edge, the majority of the board thought sacks and pressures and double teams were incredibly valuable.

Then the contract came due and the fans favorite activity, penny pinching, gained all the momentum.

That and podcasts being a violation of the Geneva convention

Heard Broaddus/Voch debating this yesterday after the Garrett trade. We discussed after the Parsons trade that these elite edge rushers weren't on championship level teams. The defensive stars who have been apart of super bowl championships over the last decade or so have been those elite defensive tackles.

Really think it is all about the salary these players command. When you start to pay an edge rusher QB level type of money it really affect the team's salary cap. Just look at what Green Bay did this offseason, lost a ton of players that they couldn't afford to retain.

When you look at the DT market, the highest paid gets about 32 per year, that is pretty much the cost of the average edge rusher in today's game, where the highest paid is Will Anderson at 50 million.
No debate needed
ZIts not complicated
The formula to winning in the NFL has not changed
FO/GM
HC
QB

These define your team

Cowboys, Browns, Raiders have been historically bad in these departments (and yes, Dak is a big part of that failure) and a ‘great pass rusher’ does not tip the scales in your favor, in fact, by getting paid a ransom he is an anchor

This butthurt post has so many things wrong is tough to respond

The other 31 GMs in the league would disagree and have written the contracts to prove it. Jerry might agree with you though.

It’s the second highest paid position in the league and is majorly skewed at the top with the elite players

The top ten Edge rushers average over $33m. The top ten DTs average just over $24m

Wide Receivers are almost even with Edge.

CB is about even with DT.

There can really be no greater measurement of how the industry validates these roles than by how much they pay.

I heard this show but the subject was first brought up on the podcast SMI Cowboys show. Nick, the host, is very interesting and very upbeat about the Cowboys while remaining realistic. It is a daily 3/4 hour long podcast. Recommended. On YT too.

As someone mentioned if the interior OL has to double team the interior DL then many times that makes the DE productive.
I usually do watch him, just didn't catch that segment. He is pretty objective with his opinions based on fact.

Everyone values the pass rushers, and it makes sense, but name the last great pass rusher who won a Super Bowl. Green Bay, with Parsons, not really close. LA might get it done with Garrett because they were already a SB fav before adding him.

If you are rebuilding, it makes sense to trade a high priced star who has the value of multiple draft picks and younger players.
Honestly I think the last elite edge rusher was Von Miller years ago.

Not using the curtains in afternoon games violates the Geneva Convevtion and the Right of Fans to win home games Convention.
