Exclusive Interview - Draft Prospect Justin Forsett
Posted by DCFanatic at 4/21/2008 9:11 AM and is filed under NFL Draft
The Cowboys are definitely looking for a RB in the draft to help out Marion Barber with the work load in 2008 and most of us are certain Jerry Jones is going hunting for this guy in round one or two.
But it's not out of the question that the Cowboys go after a CB, WR and DT with those three picks.
So then where do they find a RB who can fill the job requirements of a 3rd down, change of pace back for this high powered offense? What round would be a mystery, but the who part isn't for me.
Former Cal RB Justin Forsett absolutely tore up the Pac 10 last season on his way to being named his team's Offensive MVP with 305 carries for 1546 rushing yards and 15 TD's. This is an offense with guys like DeSean Jackson, Lavelle Hawkins and Nate Longshore on the roster, yet Forsett is the guy who wound up being the most valuable player for the Bears offense.
Here's my interview with Justin..
Justin Forsett Interview
Very smart kid who has a great head on his shoulders and he will work hard to make his way in the NFL.
Here's a look at what Justin does on the football field.

As we talked about in the interview he is a carbon copy of Maurice Jones-Drew. There is some doubt about his speed because he only ran a 4.6 at his pro day, but in watching the kid run with the ball he has enough speed to be affective at the next level.
Here's a few comments from his profile over at NFL.com..
While some assume injury will be an issue due to size issues, Forsett has never missed game time due to injury. Has a great passion for the game and is a favorite of the Cal staff, not only for his work ethic and character, but for the way he took many of the younger players under his wing. Has above-average balance, change-of-direction agility, body control and hand-eye coordination. Reaches top speed quickly. Might not have the explosive first step you look for in a scatback, but he does get to top acceleration nicely. Student of the game who studies film and is smart enough to devise a game plan (takes notes with the staff). Aggressive runner attacking the hole and even though he will usually get absorbed running in-line, he has the feet to bounce wide and pick up yardage (needs to take better angles, as he can be captured from behind). Won't overpower bigger defenders, but has enough strength to impact on secondary players. Instinctive runner with good vision to find seams and avoid trash, as he picks up his feet and jumps over legs with good balance.
While I do think Jerry takes the plunge and goes RB early in the draft it would not surprise me if he also takes a shot at Justin Forsett as well. The only real RB on this roster is Marion Barber so bringing in a few guys from the draft to compete would be the smart move.
