Via all22breakdown.com:

JORDAN ROSS – First off, how are you feeling? How far along are you in your rehab?

MATT JOHNSON – I’m doing good. Just started running a couple weeks ago, and have been doing everything else for about a month now. I’m just focused on coming back stronger than last year.

JORDAN ROSS – Will you be ready for OTA’s and minicamp?

MATT JOHNSON – Yes, I’ll be ready.

JORDAN ROSS – How frustrating has it been battling so many injuries during your first 2 years in the NFL? And what kind of steps have you taken to prevent them in the future?

MATT JOHNSON – It’s been super frustrating. I got injured in my senior year in college, but other than that, I had never missed a game. I was never injury prone, so it’s been frustrating. I’ve just been eating healthy, not pushing myself as hard while working out, and working on my flexibility a little bit more.

JORDAN ROSS – Other than injuries, what was the most difficult transition for you coming out of college and into the NFL?

MATT JOHNSON – Being away from friends and family. Being by myself was tough. There’s a lot of great guys on the team though, and I made a lot of friends. But at first, it can be kind of lonely.

JORDAN ROSS – Which veterans have taken you under their wing since you’ve been a Cowboy? What all have they taught you?

MATT JOHNSON – Gerald Sensabaugh took me under his wing in my rookie year. We were both banged up early on, so we spent a lot of time together. Also, Barry Church. He’s been a great mentor. He shows me the ropes. I can overthink things sometimes, so they taught me that whatever happens, happens, and to work my butt off.

A lot of good information on Johnson. Let's hope he can stay healthy and at least be a ST player.

I still root for the guy - People that just want to outright release this guy due to him being injured is comical. If Matt Johnson comes back and can be a B+ safety then we will have a good group of guys back there.

Well I'm pulling for the kid. Injuries have completely derailed him. Maybe this is the year he stays healthy.

As do I. I just want to see him play. If he could be our 3rd safety, I'd be thrilled.

Yes, but how many years do you wait?

Hard to show what you can do if you can't get on the field.

Take that either way you want.

You throw around that B+ grade like it's nothing... This entire team probably has 5-7 B+ players and you think this guy who has never stepped foot on the field can achieve it

Bad News guys...

The cowboys released today that Matt Johnson might have to go back on the IR before the new season ever starts. Apparently he was giving an exclusive interview to a reporter named Jordan Ross when Matt Johnson suffered a serious neck sprain from answering too many questions.

As he got up from the interview, .. he tweaked his ankle.

If it weren't for bad luck, some guys would have no luck at all.

This is great, thanks for posting.

I thought this was especially interesting:

JORDAN ROSS – How beneficial is it going up against guys like Tony Romo, Dez Bryant and Jason Witten in practice?

MATT JOHNSON – It’s amazing playing against them every day. They’re great at helping us out on the defensive side. Riding Jason Witten in practice is great. He works with me afterwards and tells me what he’s looking for, and what I can improve on. Tony does the same thing. He tells me if I’m doing a good job at disguising the coverage, or if he’s able to read it. They’re all the best at what they do. Dez is an incredible receiver. Witten, I think, will go down as the best tight end to ever play the game. Tony does so many little things better than anyone else in the league. It’s really beneficial having those guys on the team.

I've never thought it through in much detail, but this must be the sort of stuff that factors into a team really liking or not liking young players coming up. If Romo says, for example, that a safety is really good at disguising a coverage in practice, that's going to mean something positive, whereas if he's consistently able to read him. And that level of information is available coming out of camp for all of the defensive players. What Dez thinks about beating a guy off the break, or whatnot. There's actually a fair about of information available there that's not going to come out in preseason games.

And, for the people who hate on Matt Johnson's skills for no particular reason, this isn't a defense of any player in any way (the article says nothing about what the players might think, either way). It's just a comment on how the team obviously acquires some of the data they use to evaluate players and more explanation of the obvious case that they know a lot more about these guys coming out of camp than we fans do.

He'll be cheap to extend next year...it will be like drafting a safety for the next 10 years

The picture in the article has Johnson with a helmet on practicing. The picture must be worth a fortune considering how rare it is. Give the Mona Lisa a run for it's money.

The team requires him to always wear a helmet, on and off the field. ( knee braces and elbow pads too )

Just to be safe.

This kid has 2 strikes against him. Anything close to the plate injury wise and he is gone. Can't make the club sitting in the tube

"He is incredibly smart and instinctive and is always around the ball. He kind of reminds me of the DB version of Sean Lee." - author

He really shines in walk-thrus.

If there was ever a guy who needed to catch a break Matt Johnson would be that guy. He needs to be on the field if he can't manage that then Dallas needs to cut him loose. I wish him the best

I would love to see the kid make it. Hey, why wouldn't you if you are a fan of the Cowboys but I'm also a firm believer in Parcellisms. The one that states, "You can't make the team from the training room." comes to mind.
