Great interview - thanks Neon.

Edit: and this thread was particularly disgusting to read. Thanks for always maintaining the status quo, guys.

Sometimes it's hard to separate jokes from mean-spirited team-bashing. My personal opinion is that most of the Matt-Johnson-is-brittle jokes are either good natured, or at least more understandable. It's only the guys who are so resentful of his recent injuries or have their own agendas so bad that they want him on the roster without another training camp that don't make any sense to me.

I think the guy has a shot to make some plays for us if he can just stay on the field. I like his personality, too. And I can't imagine much more frustrating than getting lucky enough to be drafted by your childhood team and then getting hurt in back to back situations and watch the team then struggle badly at that position for two straight years. It would drive me crazy.

In any event, any Cowboy hopeful who's a lifelong Cowboy fan gets nothing but the highest hopes from me. I love seeing those guys (hey there, Dez) when they end up good players.

Who knows what he can be or do. But I hope he gets his chance.

the little time i got to see him in preseason before he pulled up injured was he has a fluid like movement ..

a nose for the football player and very agile.

read and react skills are definitely there.

Him and Sean Lee are China Dolls....

but they have the same potential.

at least sean has proven to be a bad dude when healthy.

let's see if matt can get it done this year..

you know one of the reasons that sean gets injured is that he gives 125% all the time.

All I’m saying is, don’t give up on the guy just yet.. You may miss out on something very special.
Finally got a chance to get thru this. Pretty good read. Still pulling for him big time. Especially since we really need the help back there.

He was a 7th round/UDFA guy we hyperextended reaching for and has been injured 3 straight years. Even with all that he's a far better option than Jeff Heath.

Maybe just maybe we should change the way we evaluate the Safety position?

What's it going to be then, eh?

Wait, he is a "bad dude" and "has potential" based on what? A handful of practices and a dozen snaps or so in the Hall of Fame game?

Sorry, this is the kind of commentary that is just crazy. Lots of players have "potential" but rarely does a player who has done so little in two full seasons after being drafted hang around this long. You would think he was some sort of phenom we plucked in the 4th round. Hardly the case.

The kind of devotion we are showing is not the norm.

Case in point, Brandon Hardin. Went to Oregon. Better college safety. Selected by the Bears in 2012 and he was injured to begin with. Called "beastly". Injured in preseason again. Cut. So now he's going to tear it up with the Jets finally?

let's see if matt can get it done this year...

He's on the roster, we have committed this kind of time, might as well. But the over the top comparisons to Lee? Kind of insulting. Not the same caliber of player, even on a small scale in college. The only commonality is the injuries, but at least Lee has played in a real game before hurting himself. This player has never ever seen the field of a real NFL game.

He works hard, has a good personality, and wants to contribute. He isn't half-assing it.

People should have more respect for others. Something tells me these same people *****ing would be astonished if someone watched them at work and accused them of dogging it every day.

I think I know.

The guy is a stiff. It's why he carried a completely undraftable grade from every draft resource I know of. It's best that he continues to get injured so some people can pretend he was some talent that just couldn't stay healthy.

He was built up by the fans as some kind of small school draft steal. I guess that is what happens when a position on the team needs upgraded and the fans are desperate . Some of the expectations for him was not realistic at all.

No you don't have the slightest idea. And in fact both players and coaches thought highly of him the year before last. Now whether or not he can get it back is another thing.

As I said he impressed some of the players and coaches with his skills. It's not easy to get it back after you're injured or have been out for a time.

And not a single one of those fans ever mentioned him prior to that draft.

He became a small school steal the moment the Cowboys drafted him. I have no respect for that.
