Execution eats playcalling for lunch

I think the play-calling was better in this game (minus the pass attempt to Rico).

I thought so as well. Especially the first half.

It’s been garbage all year but today I felt like Linehan did some good things.

The screen pass to Zeke just before half was brilliant.

All things being equal, seems like coaching would matter. If you're going to execute regardless, give me a stronger coach over a weaker one.

Whether or not one is better than the other is irrelevant. The combination is undoubtedly better than either individually.

Play calling was ok, excecution was better. Still need some work pre snap, more movement, different formations, etc to help the QB as well as help wr win off the line. Good to see Zeke catch a ton of passes. Swaim td pass was solid play too.

So tired of hearing people complain about playcalling. Fans just need to know one thing. If it works, it was a great call. If it didn’t, then it was terrible.

To some degree yes, but this is very much a circular argument. Sometimes a good play call doesnt works, Sometimes an ill advised pass is completed, but there is something to be said about a game plan. When we had the best line in football a few years back, you have some room for error, but once youve taken a step back, and the league has caught up to what you are doing....mixing it up is essential. What was a good play call 2 years ago, may not be a good play call today.

I don't disagree, and I am sure the coaches are putting in the work. But my basic premise is that great execution is much much more important. And execution is highly related to overall talent, and the QB's ability to make the best play consistently.

Finally, the large majority of fans complain about play calling when they don't really have any real what is happening out there. It's 99% hindsight and ignorance when fans complain about play calling.

The Cowboys opened the game offensively with a run that went for 1 yard. They immediately followed that with a run that went for 8. Do you realize how abnormal that has been for this team? Usually, if they run on first down and it doesn't gain more than a couple of yards, they pass. Usually if they pass on first down, then the next play is automatically a run. That's a problem with play-calling.

Many of us have been clamoring for the team to not be so predictable, and we finally got some of that.

Execution is definitely a big part of it. In fact, they went three-and-out on that first drive because they didn't execute on third-and-1. But playing to tendencies, not keeping the defense guessing and on its heels, not getting the ball in the hands of our one offensive star enough, etc., is on the coaches.

Maybe they will take what they did against Detroit and build on it, but I thought that after we came out with a well-scripted first few drives against New York, then reverted mostly to just trying to outexecute Seattle.

I dont disagree...people (frustrated fans) scream Play Calling when they dont know what or how else to articulate their frustrations. Heres my problem with Garrett and Staff...There play calling doesnt change much no matter who they are facing. The pocket likely wont be that clean against Watt and Clowney. Will we run the same vanilla offense. Many players have stated that they knew exactly what we were calling and it made it easier to sniff out the play. 1 player says it, okay hes just bumping his gums, but this has been stated many times of many years.

Say what you want, but we have NEVER seen Zeke catch this many passes. That wheel route by Zeke for the long bomb he hadnt done since he was in the league. They also made the decision to make Williams inactive and decrease the WR rotation. They were generally playing the same 4 receivers for most of the game.

It made a difference. These were all coaching changes. And there were ZERO penalties on the offense this game.

so yah, definitely execution on the part of the Oline?............................But it was some of the coaching things they did. Sadly it is things they took waaay too long for them to realize.
