Expectations Still the same

I know this is a separate thread about Scandrick. But I made a separate thread to make a point about the expectations for this team....and the impact Scandrick has on the expectations of this team.

Let me get this out of the way first. Scandrick is a very good defender. A very versatile defender. His versatility allows this coaching staff to do things with a little more peace of mind. Having said that...this is NOT Deion Sanders. Where you have designed your entire defense around his ability to take away his half of the field. So the coaching staff needs to move forward and get someone ready to plug in Scandricks place.

During the Dez negotiations....I was on record saying there are 2 players on this team that are irreplaceable. Tony and Dez. Some of you all didn't believe that was the case when it comes to Dez....and maybe you still don't. But as far as I am concerned....if Dez gets injured....this teams Super Bowl hopes are finished. Of course if Tony gets hurt...our Super Bowl hopes are finished. And seeing how terrible the swing tackle position has looked...I am almost inclined to say that if Tyron Smith gets hurt...our Super Bowl hopes are finished. But at LEAST....at LEAST....you can line a TE next to the OT and help him out. Or have a RB chip. But good teams catch on quick when you show ZERO faith in your OT being able to hold his own.

So I hate it for Scandrick. I hate it for the team. I hate it for the fans. But the expectations for this team do not change as far as I am concerned.

As long as Romo stands my expectations will always be the same.

There is not 1 person on the team that could go down that would make me think the season is over besides him.

Even Dez because as great as it is to have a Superstar WR it has been shown that you can win the Superbowl with solid at best WR's.

If this pass rush can perform as hoped, it can more than make up for the loss of Scandrick. A big pass rush can cover up a lot of holes on the back end.

We have no chance without Dez. He is the only skill position on offense...that scares anyone...besides Romo.

We won games down the stretch of the season AND we won playoff games without Troy. Because we had a QB on the roster that could do "some" of the things we needed the QB position to do. But are dynasty died when Irvin got hurt...because no one on the team could do anything close to what he could do. Same thing with this team and the way it is constructed. We do not have a QB on the roster behind Romo...that can come close to putting together 4 quarters of solid football. And we do not have another WR on the team that command double teams and open up rushing lanes for the running game because a Safety has to be on top of Dez as opposed to coming inside the box. Take Dez out of the lineup....and the field shrinks real quick.

This can still be a 10 win team if the defense steps up! It sucks but it happens every year.

Who has proclaimed or insinuated that losing Scandrick changes the team's expectations? The media? If so, people should do themselves a favor and change the channel, website, etc.

I don't want to minimize his loss. And did Graziano indicate that losing Oscan on defense was like losing Romo on offense? Either way...we CAN still win without him. Having a solid oline gives me the most confidence I have had going into a season in a long time. And that will remain for the foreseeable future. Not sure what took this organization so long to realize a solid oline covers a LOT of warts on a team. But we are also going to find out if we are to overconfident in this oline when it comes to the running game. Tony has carried this team before...so I know he CAN do it. But a balanced attack gives him the best chance of shining in January. So my expectations are still the same as long as Romo is healthy....and for my money...Dez is healthy.

I think it negates the fact that Sean Lee is back in the lineup, Scandrick was an asset and to think Patmon steps in without a Bullseye painted on his jersey is laughable. I think this injury exposes more of Wilcox or whomever is the FS. Hope the Dline is as good as the fans think on the cowboyszone. If so we will prove this theory of the rush makes the coverage better. QB's we face off with the first six games, Eli(Cruz,Beckham), Bradford(Huff,Matthews,Algolor), MattyIce(Julio,Roddy), Brees(Cooks,Colston), Brady, and Eli again. The only easy day was yesterday.

No one should attempt to minimize Scandrick's injury impact on the team but it is what it is and this is still football. Scandrick's absence does not significantly increase the team's odds of losing any game on the schedule or regarding potential playoff opponents. Now, Scandrick's injury combined with another hit to the starting secondary, perhaps Carr, does elevate the odds somewhat in that sense but not to a degree that adjustments cannot be made to compensate.

If the running game is as good as it was last year...that more than the pass rush will protect this team. A mediocre defense did not prevent this team from winning games last year....it prevented them from winning at the highest level during the playoffs.....and we almost pulled it off against Green Bay with an average defense. Do I think we have an improved defense? Yep. But I am more concerned with a major step back in the run game.

I just saw a great segment on ESPN about how we have no CB depth at all, and how we may not even have any other DBs on the roster, according to a source.

There's an example of media gibberish. The 21st century is full of them. And it's only 2015.

Its bad because its for the year; Other DBs are going to go down throughout the season but will come back after a few games. Oscan is out for good.....

Yes, I think Rod and the defense coaches DONT sit on their butts and let the season go. I think they are high on their defense this year. This is no way impacts the offense, because even with a porous D they can still put points up. All this does is force another guy into a role he should be prepared for. Is Scandrick Deion Sanders, no, so lets not feel he cant be replaced.

The Op is correct, it is not as horrible as it may seem at the moment.
Remember last year we was said we would have a worse D than the previous year. Then Sean lee goes down. Just about everyone had us a t 4 wins at best.
We sign McClain, only very few was ok with this, as he drew more hate than McFadden is getting this year. Well, maybe not. But our D was solid last year with no pass rush.

Now we have what looks to be a very good pass rush, with added depth in the secondary. Sean lee is back, we will have McClain and Hardy in game 5. So losing Scandrick hurts, but they have time to adjust in the new few weeks. So the impact won't be as bad as we all think it is now. Still hate that he is out, but nothing we can do about it. Next man up.
