Explain to me why we would want the Eagles to win?

If the Giants lose to the Eagles, then BOTH of these things would have to happen for us to get knocked out of the picture:

The Giants win their last 3 AND
We lose 3 out of 4 (or all 4)

That's the only realistic way we DON'T make the playoffs with a Giants loss.

Right? :)

that would be incorrect

dallas goes 2-2 and finishes 10-6
giants go 3-0 after losing to philly and finish 10-6

giants get in over dallas

lol, you might as well pack it in now..what are your goals for the season? Make the playoffs? Maybe win 1 playoff game? You cannot possibly think much higher of this group than that, at least not with that mentality.

Not sure I get your response.

My expectations for this team are as high as anyone here. I believe we are good enough to win out.

I expect no less than 3 out of our last 4 and see that as somewhat necessary to have enough momentum for a play-off run.

But that's not what this thread is about. It's about possible play-off scenarios effecting the Cowboys. Whom do we want to lose? What's best for the Cowboys outside of the games they play.

Wanting them to have a play-off spot locked up before week 17 isn't a bad thing.

I expect us to kick the eagles *** week 17.

Yeah, it seemed to good to be true.

Still, I like the fact that all we have to do is match the Giants win for win and we're in. I don't think they've "turned anything around."

I apologize if I misunderstood your stance. However, I was under the impression you did not feel we would be able to beat Philly in week 17 and wanted to have the playoffs wrapped up by then to avoid another meltdown. In my opinion, having the Giants win on Sunday provides Dallas with the best opportunity to qualify for the playoffs via the wildcard, as well as the best opportunity to snag the division title.

Or the Eagles win and the Giants fall further behind us. And if we keep winning we can play the final game for teh division crown and worst case we get in on a Wildcard. We will lose both tie breakers to the Giants and Packers. I would rather let the eagles win it all and Us win any 2 games. it doesnt matter what games that is.

If we finish 10-6, we'd still need the Giants to lose again after losing to the Eagles.

Donovan McNabb will be confused?
Good one, Adam!

One thing that could come into play is the Cincy/Minnesota game on Sunday. If Cincy wins, Minnesota will be one game ahead of the Cardinals for the 2nd seed and accompanying bye. Given the Cardinals easy schedule (SF, Detroit and St Louis) in their next 3 games and the fact that the Crads beat the Vikes, it is possible that Minnesota will need to beat the Giants on the last Sunday to get the 2nd seed, which means Minnesota will not rest thrie starters, etc. However, if Minnesota has the 2nd seed locked up by the last game, they may treat it at a pseudo pre-season game and that would help the Giants.

At any rate, thanks for clarifying the easiest way into the playoffs, Adam.

I guess it depends if you want to win the division or just earn a Wildcard spot.

If you want the division crown, then root for Philly. If you want to just quailify for the playoffs as a Wildcard, then root for the Giants.

Thats it folks, root for Philly if you want to win the division and root for Giants if you just want to make the playoffs regardless.

If the Giants lose Sunday night, then lose any one of their last three, and we go 10-6, doesn't that mean our 2 wins can come against anybody?

yes, they would finish at 9-7 in that scenario

Don't drink the Eagles kool Aid...you want the Giants to win..

A Giants win this sunday means Dallas just has to win 1 game from the following the 3 (Chargers, Saints, and Skins) and defeat the Eagles in week 17 and they are in..

I see your point but the Giants schedule is the easiest of the three, so I'm still going for the Eagles Sunday because NY owns the tiebreaker on Dallas...

the Giants remaining schedule is 1) harder than you and many others are led to believe..but more importantly 2)almost irrelevant

If the Giants defeat the Eagles, Dallas only has to go 2-2 down the stretch with 1 of those 2 wins being against the Eagles in week 17 in Dallas...if Dallas cannot accomplish this, they do not deserve to qualify for the postseason

Everybody is so caught up in this tiebreaker thing that don't realize by rooting for the Eagles over the Giants we could be out of first place at the end of Week 15. THe Eagles play the 49ers at home next Sunday while we go to play the undefeated Saints. The Eagles win and we lose we are out of first place completely. The Eagles would be 10-4 and we would be 9-5.

Now if the Giants win and we win we will have sole possession of first going into week 15. No worse after Week 15 we will be tied with the Eagles and maybe the Giants if they win at Washington. That means a 3 way tie for first with 2 to play. I would rather be in first or tied for first then a game out with two to play. You don't want to be chasing right now and that is what could happen after Week 15 if the Eagles beat the Giants this Sunday. I care more about winning this division then I do about just getting a playoff spot right now. This team will make it a lot easier on itself by winning the division.

But what you are forgetting is that we get to play Philly and we already have tiebreak on them. So it doesnt matter if we are trailing Philly by one game going into the closer. If we win, both teams would have the same record but Dallas would have tiebreak.

If we are tied with the Giants, then we have to hope somebody beats the Giants for us to win the division.

It is the difference of controlling your destiny or praying for some other team to help you. I would rather be trailing Philly by a game knowing I can win the division in week 17 then hoping somebody beats the Giants if we are in a 3 way tie.

Yes, that's correct. If we win any two and the Giants lose any two, we're in.

Thats true only if we win out. If we lose 1 game, then we better hope somebody beats the Giants or else we lose the division.

San Diego
New Orleans
Washington
Philadelphia

We almost assuredly will lose 1 of those games, the odds of beating all 4 of those teams in a row in December........You would have better odds at lotto.

There is almost NO WAY the Giants won't lose again. They will lose at least twice.

I feel the same way. This team should not slide into the playoffs. I think we will see them earn their way in by playing their best ball.

Too many scenarios. But I'll add one. GB has a relatively tough schedule with three road games - Bears, Steelers and Cards. They COULD lose all three of those. The Bears being a division rival, could be tough. Steelers are free falling but doen't mean it would be easy for GB, especially with the Steelers having a half-bye. Hopefully, the Cards are still fighting for playoff positioning the last week.

Looking at it, you could see a scenario where 3 East teams actually make it it. If the pack lose those three road games, and Eagles, Giants and Cowboys all good 2-2, I think they'd all be in. Maybe, Giants and Pack would have the same record, not sure who'd have the tie breaker.
