Extend Josh Brent Now

Then he can perform like the average player that Lissemore is right now, and we are stuck with him long term.

I wanna see what happens around draft time at the position that could be deep in the first round this year, before I lock into anything with Brent.

Some fans just never seem to amaze me...

We didnt overspend. We resigned him in 07 I believe. 08-11 he played above that contract for us.

It helps if you have facts when you make an argument. We just signed him last year to a huge extension.

9/9/2011: Signed a seven-year, $48.625 million contract. The deal contains $18 million guaranteed, including a $10 million signing bonus. 2012: $1.5 million (+ $500,000 roster bonus), 2013: $5 million, 2014: $5.5 million, 2015: $7 million, 2016: $7.5 million, 2017: Free Agent

Brent's responsibility for the game by the running back was limited. We saw some awful, awful performance from the linebackers yesterday. Recency bias is a pain, but I believe the normally brilliant Ware might have had his worst game as a pro on Sunday. I just don't remember him making so many foolish, foolish mistakes. It pains me to say it, but several big runs were successful because they intentionally baited Ware.

Brent was quite good, and not just on the play where he got a good jump.

It was a bizarre day on defense. Rob came in with the wrong gameplan - our vets played badly, on the whole, while our depth players actually showed some spark. Probably an anomaly.

Yeah they do, especially when we win one game and all of a sudden they want to extend anyone with a pulse from that game.

I couldn't hear you...your generalizations were too loud.

I've been a fan of Brent all year.

We shouldn't think about extending Brent til we see what happens come draft time.

This is the first time in several years that there could be 4 NTs that have first round grades in the draft. We have to take a look at them, and we don't need Brchanger.ent getting in the way of that cause while he is adequate,he isn't a game changer.

Except for that one game changing play, last night.

Ok, just saying he doesn't deserve a contract.....yet.

Not saying he won't get one next year after the draft is over, but right now we have far more important things to worry about like Spencer, Felix, and Jenkins.

Yep. Which only would lead to more bad contracts for this team.

Went back and watched it. He did single handily cause the Bryce Brown fumble. Good eye.

Yep, he made a great play.

Now name another one......as Kat Williams would say.....I'll wait.

I will never understand why we fall in love with average players here.

Just my two cents, but I don't see Felix coming back, and there's no chance in you know where that Jenkins returns.

Spencer? Depends on what he thinks he's worth.

What exactly are you looking for in a 3-4 DT? Brents young, powerful, holds up his blocks well, and is improving in pressuring the qb. Brent has played well in a starters role, and as long as he doesn't break the bank, you need to lock up players such as Brent. Hope your wait wasn't too long.

Yeah, because Josh Brent was the sole reason Brown ran for almost 200 yards.

Had nothing to do with both ILB being down.

Or the safeties sucking to high heaven.

I wouldn't get too excited about Brent. He's been decent this year and played his best game ever.

But, being down on him, Ware, Hatcher or Spencer because the ILB's and safeties couldn't do their job is asinine. I'd much rather have a healthy Ratliff in there, but I could say that about most NT's in the game because a healthy Ratliff is that good.

Why Spears is still playing outside of giving Lissemore or Crawford the occasional breather is beyond me.

And just to think, Parcells wanted him at #11 instead of Ware until Jerry decided it would be the other way around.

Well 40 mins and you still didn't come up with another play...;)

Just saying, the guy is average. No reason to stress out about an average player.

It must be difficult to think that a 24 year old player could be starting to reach his potential. It's called player progression.

Agree to disagree.

I understand you like the guy, I'm really indifferent with him, just doesn't matter at the moment. I don't hate him at all, but I do feel waiting is better in this particular situation cause of the draft and its prospects this particular year might be pretty good. Extending someone too early can be a huge mistake, one we have made in the past, and one we should try to avoid if possible.

He occupies blockers? It's been the fans war-cry for Spears supporters for years.

Blah, blah, blah, "it's not his fault he was a first round pick," blah, blah, blah

Spears is the modern-day equivalent of Kevin Brooks, Kavika Pittman, etc.

Well I think the OP is trying to say that you can get Josh Brent locked up for pretty cheap right now. I wouldn't disagree with this at all.

Bent is a 4-3 tackle playing at NT. Watch Wilford with New England for what a NT does. In NE win yesterday Wilford was pushing the C and G back into the the QB and RB. With Wilford in the backfield the running game was forced to change and the QB could not step up into the pocket. This is what a 3-4 NT does. That player does not exist of the Cowboy team at this time. If he did the Eagles would not have run over us last night.

Think 330 lbs with legs like pile drivers and pushing like a Sumo Wrestler. No tricks, no sliding off the tackle, no shedding blocks, just drive the OL back into the QB in 2.5 seconds. Now that's what I am talking about (road grader)!
