I don't know about "being on the cusp of greatness" but I do believe we are building a team that will be consistent. And maybe somewhere in there they learn to win and compete for the big prize. I know we are building a team of RKOG but I want to sprinkle in a few edgy players as well, a Ruben Foster type. That brings it with some nastiness. Create a competitive culture where it doesn't matter where you are drafted, everyone fights for a starting job.

Let me say this. There is a big if in any prediction. Health is a major concern. The draft and free agency also come into play.

My "feeling" is this team reminds me a great deal of the early 90's team. The GB game last year could be equated to the Lions play-off game of 1991. But instead of a Charles Haley available to catapult this team into the NFC Championship game, this team will continue to be built by the draft.

This is where my glass half full comes in. The DB's taken this year need to contribute in 2018 in a major way. Plus one more solid draft after the coming season, and Dallas could have the components to win it all.

I truly believe Beas and Switz will be weapons on offense which will test defenses to the limit. So a good showing by the rooks this year to build on next year, and a good draft and FA, and this team could well be on the cusp of greatness.

Is there blue sky in my assessment?

Absolutely.

But there are hungry players on this team with great skill sets who want to get to the promised land. They just need to learn t win under pressure. That is why a step back this season from last will not be a downer, if the team is showing they are amassing the correct pieces with the talent and mental make-up to want it so bad they will put it all on the line.

So forgive me for some pie-in-the-sky in my previous post in this thread. I'm hungry for those seasons too.

I could not have said it better myself.

This is what realist call big-picture-thinking. It's not an optimism rooted in the results of the upcoming season. It is an understanding of what the team is attempting to build here and believing that if not this year, very soon we will start to see their approach yield results. As fan's we should be happy that what many of us have been begging the franchise to do for a few decades now is well under way and has been for around 5 years now.

And the best part of it all is the timing. The Cowboys have been slowly building through the draft and smart-buys during Free Agency to culminate in a team that is now just hitting it's stride as they have found their next Franchise QB paired with a running back who may be the best all-around running back in the league, and a receiver core that rivals 31 other teams.

The questions that surround this team mostly focus on defense. But as a dominant-defense-starter-kit, you have to like what we are seeing there, as well. Sure, it will have to manifest itself on the field before most fans buy in. But for fans who have been watching this game since the 80's, we have a sense of what is happening right before eyes because we have seen this before in the early 90's before the Cowboys earned the name "dynasty."

Now, I'm no Miss Cleo, so my predictions mean little; but, nevertheless, I do feel strongly that this team is headed in the right direction. That teamed with lucking into Dak in the fourth round last year is what I believe will ultimately catapult the Cowboys to the success we all crave.
