News: Ezekiel Elliott: I have a lot to prove

The biggest thing he has to prove is that father time hasn't caught him yet. RBs hit the wall early and they hit it hard. They go from amazing to back-up quality in very short order. VERY few backs produce over the long-term. He looked less explosive last year to me. Is that because of missing camp and team distractions? Is it because he's at the wall?

He has a lot to prove every year. He's in Dallas...where the legends Tony Dorsett and Emmitt Smith played. Where Calvin Hill went to four Probowls and two Superbowls in only six seasons. Where Herschel Walker...well...was just too dang good to keep.

I'm hoping he's got a lot left in the tank.

Reminds me of Felix Jones.
Jones was quick with good speed. But, his career ended as quickly as it began.

What do you expect the man to say? He's going to have to prove it on the field.

Looking forward to him having his best year ever.

He should be getting at least 25 carries a game..
That should put him as the rushing leader again.

He needs to run angry like he did his rookie season like when he bulldozed Cam Chancellor

Zeke has 0 to prove.
Without him, the offense would be permanently in Field goal la la land and our passing game as when he was out would be in the gutter!
15 Quarters of str8 offense without 1 TD was this offense claim to fame when Zeke was out.
Any negative comments are simply pent up frustration that he got PAID while others.....well you get the idea!

There's likely no doubt but what Zeke could have benefitted from participating in TC last year. Nevertheless, he only has himself to blame for that being the case. Let's see if he's able to make amends for his slight swoon last year and going forward, make the most of his availability in TC this year!
I disagree about "he only has himself to blame for that being the case". What happened last year was a classic case of the owner and the GM being the same person. Jerry should have either decided "Zeke has the leverage and pony up" OR Jerry could have decided "I am NOT going to cave"....and let Zeke for the first 10 games. The businessman, marketing man (all publicity is good publicity) and ego of Jerry got involved....and that's when running a sports franchise like you run your other businesses is detrimental to the success of a football season. I am not going to get into whether or not Zeke should have held out. I am just saying the WAY we handled it was incorrect. Just like the way we are handling the Dak situation is incorrect. Owners, have to understand that players...especially ones that have or think they have leverage...are not going to exhibit the behavior of players in the past. Again, not going to get into whether the owners or players are at fault....but what I will say "this is where we are". So the owners/GM need to have a good understanding of everyone on there roster....have a good understanding of who/what makes the team go....and stay 2 steps ahead. A workhorse RB that your head coach rides like a mule because the head coach does not deploy an offense that spreads the wealth and elevates the production of lesser talented players is what Jerry had in Jason Garrett. So Zeke and his people were determined that they were going to get Dallas before Dallas called him washed and overworked, That is the job of the GM to be abreast of all of these dynamics. They probably were and just want to pretend like they were blindsided to sway the court of public opinion against the "greedy" player. But a REAL gm is always prepared for everything.

So again....won't get into whether Zeke should or shouldn't have held out...but I will always contend Jerry handled it the wrong way. If you knew you were NOT going to start the season without Zeke...you need to lick your wounds at the negotiating table and get back to football...instead of making Zeke and the fans sweat until the last minute. But I am sure Jerry is not accustomed to having to do this. Heck, he started a Super Bowl season 0 - 2 because he felt Emmit was not worthy of a raise....and we all know who was the straw that stirred the drink on that team. But you know Jerry...always enamored with his "eye for talent"...that he think "500 coaches could coach the Dallas Cowboys". But he is so enamored with what HE puts together that he thought that 4th round RB from a couple of years ago that stole a "tester" bottle of cologne from the mall could replace an 1800 yard RB

I applaud him, just wanted to say that before the Zeke bashers come on here
I was actually going to compliment him, he’s finally right. He does need to make more people miss and he does have a lot to prove. I’ve been saying that for years, glad he’s finally on the same page.

This cat is and has been the most spoiled back in the league since the day he was drafted. He has had the best consistent O line and great receivers to take pressure off him, more so than any other RB. He shouldn’t have any excuses and should be top 5 in every statistical category. Instead, he only has most rushing yards due to most carries which is due to play calling. Oh, and did I mention he has about 10X the room to run compared to other top backs in the league?

Yeah, that had nothing to do with Tyron being out

What running back fell off in year 5 without injuries? lol You talk like Zeke is 30 talking about father time

Zeke should have stayed in Mexico.

The coaching staff ran predictable run routes the majority of the season with the defense sitting on zeke. However, I would love to see Dak improve more on optioning out or calling a timeout before letting zeke get destroyed the second he touches the ball.

Prob an easy 3-4 times a game Dak let zeke get blown up for no reason when everyone in the world knew what was coming. He improved last season just needs to keep working on it

The excuses this guy gets are unbelievable. It seems as if a lot of you don’t watch any other teams play and have no idea how fortunate the ewok is and how much room he has to run on most plays compared to other RB’s. Drop the “defenses focus on him” argument as well, 23 other RB’s faced more stacked boxes than he did last year and several RB’s don’t have the quality receivers we do to take the pressure off. Oh yeah, did I mention the O line?

Keep making excuses though, it’s funny how wrong some of you are.

A few of these people making excuses need to go back and watch tape of Barry Sanders. Barry NEVER had a decent o'line to run behind and had to work his tail off to get what he could. Zeke will never come close to a Barry Sanders type of RB. He doesn't have the same passion or desire and will never have it.

I've had the fortune of watching some great RB's in my time - Dorsett, Campbell, Payton, Dickerson, Sanders, and Emmitt. Zeke isn't in the same league with any of them and it isn't even close.

but but but...he won two rushing titles, 3 if he wasn’t suspended!

He stated his goal is to win a Super Bowl and you nitpick at that?

Why do you even feel the need to just nitpick his words as a way to..I guess criticize his play or contract?
I dont like him as a person, so dont pay attention to me if you like him.
Every players goal is to win a SB isnt it?? So when players say that it is kinda stupid.

The smart thing to say would be this year we are going past the div round, and enuff said.
The contract was too much for a RB, no way around that.
Also he isnt breaking any long runs, he doesnt have the speed anymore, but he is still good RB, just not worth what jones paid him.
