According to this writer, he believes Scandrick will win out over Jenkins.

• Dallas Cowboys -- Cornerback: Terence Newman has one of the two starting spots, and the other is likely to go to a 2008 draft pick -- either first-rounder Mike Jenkins or fifth-rounder Orlando Scandrick. The coaching staff likes both players, and the organization is obviously very high on Jenkins, since they spent a first-round pick on him. There's some thought that they'd like Scandrick to play well enough to put pressure on Jenkins, who has a reputation as a physical and athletic specimen with a questionable work ethic. Scandrick showed a lot last year as a slot corner in the nickel package, and he's likely to play a lot even if he's not technically the starter. But Jenkins has more raw upside, and if both players play to their potential he's likely to see the field more.

PREDICTION: The two split time in the base defense, and they're both on the field in nickel and dime packages. But since we have to make a pick, we'll take the (slight) underdog and say Scandrick is on the field opposite Newman when the Cowboy defense takes the field for the first time in 2009.

I give the slight nod to Jenkins, simply because Jerry always has to validate his draft decisions by playing those guys he puts faith in. Jenkins would have to, God forbid, get hurt not to be the starter in September.

I like them both but having to pick one over the other I choose Jenkins who has more pressure on him to earn the starting job being that he was a 1st rd pick. Both will see ample playing time but I would like to see Jenkins over come the pressure he will be facing.

I'm leaning towards Scandrick myself but isn't this a wonderful problem to have?

Is Jerry making calls on who plays? Maybe he is on who is on the roster, but on who starts?

If so, Bobby Carp wants to know what's up.

Jerry actually wanted to start his 1st Round LB but Bobby overruled him indicating he had his hands full with his ESPN assignments and would just as soon stay well rested for that.

LOL, well if Jerry wants a coach who runs his own team, it certainly doesn't explain why the hell Wade Phillips is the head coach (and Tom Landry, Big Bill and Jimmy Johnson were run out of town).

Just my 2 cents :D

i like both..and want both to do well, so its a toss up for me

Really? Any examples of this?

If we are going to run more man to man defense this year than Jenkins will be tough to beat out.

Chad Hutchinson and Drew Henson

No way on earth did Bill want to pull his boy Vinny out.

Key point in bold. As such, it will be a plus for the defense and a minus for the opposing offense when both are on the field at the same time.

Bill never started Hutchinson. He was released just before they signed Vinny.

He pulled Vinny because he was hurt and we were getting blown out on the road vs Baltimore. Not because Jones wanted him to.

True, but Henson started the following week vs the Bears and BP pulled him at halftime and put Vinny in. I know from listening to the post game show on the radio Jerry was not happy with that.

Just because he wasnt happy with it doesnt make it an example of Jones forcing a player onto the field to justify drafting (or in this case trading) the guy.

And it was stupid to put the 600 yr old Testaverde back out there when 1) he was hurt and 2) our season was already over and the guy clearly had no future here.

People want to blame Jones for everything. But they cant make the argument he has decided who will and wont play, or how much. I cant think of any examples of this over the years regardless of who the coach was.

No it does it and I'm one who like Jerry. I also know that on Cowboy radio they were talking about Jerry wanting Henson to start that game vs the Bears I also know Dallas won the game and Jerry was not pleased that Henson was not allowed to finish the game. Prior to that Henson was listed as a 3rd string once the Bears game was over Romo was promoted to 2nd string and Henson went down to 3rd string.

Personally I think the biggest misconception is Jerry is telling coaches who plays and who doesn't. I think Jerry has an opinion and will voice it but I also think the coaches do make the call on who is playing

I was talking about when Quincy got yanked pre-bill.

I was referring to the Chicago game.

Vinny was ready to go but Henson started the game.

Even though we had the lead at halftime Bill pulled the plug and went back to Vinny which sent fans into an uproar.
