Too many fans this year are rolling these wonderful built-in excuses

"But Dak is a rookie"
"But Zeke is a rookie"
"We thought we wouldnt be good"
"When romo went down we thought the season was done"
"This season has already surpassed my expectations"

This is how they plan to console themselves if we lose at some point.

My major problem with this line of thinking is it causes them to gloss over being objective about actual issues.

Try talking about an issue and you get "if its not perfection, its not good enough" or "13-2, you should just be happy" and a whole list of other statements showing they arent paying attention to reality.

Its not just about wins. If it was, 18-1 would be cool and revered.

Its ok to be objective and say our defense played horrible, or the offense only put up 7 points and that that is unacceptable for the team. Complacency gets no one anywhere. If you're not moving forward, you're moving backwards.

Well 18-1 could be cool and revered depending on when one got that 1 loss. Just sayin

The defense came out horrible.

We were all worried about the offense coming out unmotivated but it was the defense that came out playing that way.

Our defense doesn't have the talent to just show up and not play 100%. That is what they do. They play hard. Obviously if you had the #1 rush defense all year and you get Zenner'd than its an effort issue more than anything.

The big bright positive is that someone got it turned around and we completely shut them down and looked as good on defense as we have all year.

I trust the defense. I really do. But they 100% came out flat.

Built in excuses?

Who needs to make excuses for a 13 win season and a #1 seed?

Get outta here with this garbage. I hope this trash gets whisked away to the RantZone.

This is almost a perfect example of what the OP was talking about. So nice of you guys to support his argument like this.

I think some of that is on Gregory. Zenner had several runs to the spot he vacated.

OP thinks he's holding the team accountable and is salty the defense started slow. However, we were shorthanded by two starters on the Dline and letting 94 get acclimated when he hasn't taken a snap all year--and still held them to 0 in the second.

Some people just have to complain.

There was 1 or 2 runs total that were on Gregory and it was more about a better playcall than anything.

For 1... Why is Gregory in the game near the Redzone?

2... The Lions were called a couple of draw plays against a guy they know is in their to rush the passer.

Enjoy the win and take your own advice...Quit making excuses of what fans MIGHT say.

And I don't care what anyone says unless they are the biggest blue and silver homer to ever lived...nobody thought we were going to be this good with a rookie 4th round QB after Romo went down. That is not an excuse...that is reality.

Absolutely. They looked like Swiss cheese for the majority of the first half. Barely getting in the way of Stafford and the Lions. And then things clicked, a few players left the game, the '32' dime defense came out, and Detroit was finished. Even the punter was out there whacking people!

A tale of two halves to be honest.

I'd love to see some footage of whatever was said during halftime because it sure worked. I hope they have a similar speech set for the playoffs.

That defense was sick that we were running.

Rush 3 and just blitz like crazy.

Walk the whole team up to the line on the left side and then back out into coverage and come off the right side.

It was awesome.

We're fans, not coaches or general managers. We have the option of being complacent without it affecting the team one iota. But by all means, be troubled by fans not sharing your concern for "being objective about actual issues" you're in no position to address. Nothing you or I post here, no grand solution, is going to do anything to fix those perceived issues.

As for me, I'm going to enjoy 13-2 and look forward to the playoffs because this doesn't happen every year. What occurs on the field is out of my hands.

I don't get the urge to bash fellow Cowboys fans over something that may or may not even happen. How the hell do you make the jump from "Dak and Zek are rookies" to "you're moving backwards" anyway?

If you can be happy about winning and playing good, then you can be mad about losing and playing bad.

Thats the normal swing of emotions. Excuses, that I addressed in the OP, are made by people who want the emotion of playing good and winning, but want to save themselves from the anger of losing and playing bad.

You gotta take both.

It was addressing the fans that ARE bashing other fans. Let fans that want to live in reality and critique the failures of the team do so without "No one expected we could be 13-2" or "But dak is just a rookie so quit critiquing".

And the moving backwards was in reference to the team as a whole. A bunch of sloppy penalties isnt moving forwards, which is a huge flag and concern.
