How do you feel about this?

Personally, I don't think people should be fans of schools that they did not go to. At the very least, that their parents didn't go to. Pro sports is a little different because you can't really have a connection to a pro team, except for geography. I am just big on loyalty and I am a Cowboys fan because I am from the area and a LTU fan because I went there. What say you?

I say I did not go to Texas but I have been a big fan of theirs since I was a kid. I went to SFA but my heart has always been a longhorn. Who you think should be fans or not I guess is your hang up thankfully there are no rules about who is allowed to be a fan or not.

I root for every team in Texas except for Sam Houston State... I went to SFA so I can hate SHSU...

I see nothing wrong with it... what's the point of following college football if you have no teams to root for?

It goes the same way for hating a team. You would then have no right to hate a team unless they are your schools chief rival... That would suck the life out of the Notre Dame haters out there...

I hate USC but I have no reason to... I just do...

I was born in Texas but grew up in Louisiana. I like LSU and I like La Tech... I hate McNeese State... I like Alabama...

I like Texas, I like A&M, I like TCU... etc...

I guess the thing that gets on my nerves is the people who support LSU or UT just because they think that being from the state gives them association to them. In reality, they root for the winner and I hate bandwagon fans.

Man I have been a longhorns fan since I can remember and there has not been much of a bandwagon in terms of UT play as of late but still love the Horns and go to the games when I can. There are many in my family who are Longhorns fans none went to UT.

I've never been a bandwagoner so to speak...

I can't stand those morons that all went out and bout Alabama jerseys when the year before they had Auburn Jerseys...

I also reserve the right to dislike any team Steve Spurrier coaches... :D

I think your take on this is really common for Louisiana schools. I have known so many people who attended Tulane or La Tech or UL who really hate all those goofs that barely made it past 8th grade but swear allegiance to LSU.:laugh1:

I kind of understand it. But then again, MOST fans of power programs did not actually attend that school.

Noetre Dame fans are the most guilty...if you want to call it that. I bet less than 1 actually attended the school.

But that's their right....no big deal really.

It is by far the dominant school there.

Ohio State is slightly similar as well.

Texas, on the other hand, is a state with a buch of other major or somewaht major programs.

I was born in Dallas, then moved to the Wash DC area when I was 6.

I love the Cowboys, but hate the Skins.

Dolphins are my 2nd favorite team. My grandparents lived in Miami for years and I would go to Miami every year. Loved the Dolphins when they beat the Skins in the Super Bowl in 72. That vindicated the Cowboys loss to the Skins in the NFC Title game, somewhat . . . . . . . . . . .

However, I grew up in MD, and my grandfather was from Baltimore so I grew up going to Orioles games and have been rooting for the O's for almost 40 years. Also root for the Terps in basketball and football.

Also like Michigan and the U for college football.

My mom's family is all from Detroit so there is a lil Mich connection. While I root for the Wash Caps in hockey I also root for the Red Wings. I like to see the Tigers do well in baseball even thought I rooted for the Ran gers to beat them in the ALCS last year.

Not a very big basketball fan but grew up following the Bullets as a kid. Have no interest in the Wizards now. Live is South Florida so I pull for the Heat, but not really seriously.

When it comes to sports teams, Im all over the map. It makes no sense to anybody but me, and thats really all that matters.

I love the Cowboys and thank God almost daily that I have had the privilege to be a Cowboys fans and go to a couple of Super Bowls. Loyal to a fault with the Boys!

I love my Orioles and some of my fondest memories are at the old Memorial Stadium. Rooting for the Orioles is who I am. Its in my blood. Its in my DNA. Loyal to a fault.

Hate Notre Dame, Penn State, Free Shoe U, the Gators, USC in football.

Hate Carolina and Duke in roundball.

Hate the Celtics.

Having rules would be no fun and being a sports fan is all about fun!

I can see some of those loyalties but I am always skeptical of the people who claim to be Cowboy, Laker and Yankee fans. Or like the bunch who live in Louisiana that like the Red Sox. Personally, I don't care about baseball but it's obvious that those people just pick the teams that usually win (our last decade notwithstanding) and root for them. That, to me, is a bad trait.

Now, if your family raised you a UT fan then fine, but there are too many people than think just being born in Texas makes them a UT fan. There are far far too many who think being born in Louisiana makes them an LSU fan. If you go to one school and root for another I think that is despicable. Just go to that school if you love them so much. The only exception would be if your school is 1AA and the other school is 1A. In my opinion you cannot actively root for La Tech and LSU, or TCU and UT.

I've been a longhorn fan since I was a little kid, I grew up in cities around Houston who are mostly Aggie fans and all of my friends growing up were Aggie fans because they were good at the time and had the wrecking crew so for my part I was a fan when/where it wasn't cool to be one. I have always wanted to attend UT but the way things work out that isn't feasible but I will attend UTD. My GF graduated from Texas State and so I'm am a casual fan of them but I bleed burnt orange and I guarantee that I am a bigger/truer fan than a big percentage of the student population at UT so people can say what they want about my fandom and I'll tell them where they can stick it.

I hear ya.

One thing is for sure, nobody can accuse me of being an Orioles bandwagon fan for the past 14 years! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: Its been brutal!

I grew up in Texas and I hate UT, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech.

Actually, I hate college football. I like the atmosphere, but I couldn't care less about any college team.

*I went to UNT. That should explain a lot. :D

Dallas fan because I loved Bob Hayes in college and as an Olympian. Red Sox fan because one of the first books I read was about Ted Williams. I was a Yankee fan before that. There were no baseball teams in the south in the late 50s. I became a Celtics fan in the late 50s because I loved Bill Russell.

I'm a college fan of my school but I also root for other state teams. I like to see people do well and esp college athletes. I pull for them all just some a little more.

As long as your favorite is the school you are an alum of and your secondary schools aren't in direct confict with your favorite schools.

I am actually in issue now that TCU is in the Big 12 since my second school is Texas. That said, I can justify it by saying that I'm a Texas school fan except for Texas A&M due to their low class exit from the Big 12. Topping that off with the fact that Texas A&M went to the SEC and the SEC is the ONLY completely REDNECK conference. :)

Preposterous.

I grew up almost my entire life in Syracuse, roughly 15 minutes from the Carrier Dome. My dad had season tix for Syracuse football and basketball since I was 6-years old. Would have had season tix for lacrosse if they had it. I have seen almost every sport at SU. Had plenty of friends that graduated there and have friends that work for the University.

Why should I not be a fan of the University?

I go for SC teams, Clemson and USC, because I was born in SC. I don't think there is anything wrong with that; though, my school, ODU, just started their program a few years ago and it been really fun watching it from the start. we just got our invite to Conference USA last year.

My young life I grew up in Arkansas. My family there were huge Razorbacks fans and it rubbed off on me to this day. I bleed Razorback blood even though I didn't go to school there. I got my degrees from various schools during the time I spent in the Air Force. It was strictly school work so I didn't get the school "spirit" I would have gotten if I attended on campus, so the Hogs are where my loyalty resides.

I make no apologies.
