As an alumnus of the University of Texas I have no problem with people being fans. Buy more gear, attend games and please talk us up, especially to great high school talent. The only thing I find weird is when someone went to a Div I school with a team in a major conference and they cheer for another. Otherwise I have no problem, and think it makes things even bigger and better. Take some pride in it like you would with your NFL team. What I don't like are the fair weathers that just jump on who is hot that year.

i went to UT as well, but i also cheered for the little guys like boise and previously TCU, as well as other texas schools outside of A&M. obviously not if they were playing UT or like in 2008 with tech, if it was to the detriment of UT

wow, that just reminded me of that baylor/TTU game at the end of that year that would have sent UT to the conference game and subsequently to the title game vs florida :bang2:

stupid baylor, couldnt hang on!

Are you from Louisiana? Therefore you shouldn't be a fan of the Cowboys..... It IS the same thing really. The Cowboys are a Texas team after all. I am a Longhorn fan but I went to SFA. I live in Austin now though. I'm not a bandwagon fan either so that's not a good argument.

You didn't read. I am from Texas but I went to Louisiana Tech

If you never served in office... you can't like one candidate over another...
If you've never been a cattle rancher, you can't like steak... (I'm a HUGE fan of steak and have never owned cattle)...
If you've never been a baker, you can't like cake...
If you're not Mexican, Mexican food can't be your favorite...

It's really a ridiculous argument... in a country founded on freedom of likes and dislikes. No one holds an exclusive right to root for any team. I have just as much of a right to root for Texas as Vince Young... maybe more as I am a taxpayer funding that school and he isn't... ;)

The OP is likely venting frustration on bandwagon fans... they annoy me too... but they have every right to be annoying bandwagon fans...

I am venting from bandwagon fans. When UT makes the NC game all of the sudden anyone from Texas has the hat. In my opinion, if you went there you have that right forever. If you parents went there you have that right. Even the poster that was raised a Razorback fan, that makes sense. People who just pick random teams like USC or UT (in the case of people from halfway across the country), or LSU (most residents of Louisiana who couldn't locate Baton Rouge on a map) then I think that is the definition of bandwagon.

I haven't gone to college yet though I will next year, but I'm a UT fan because my father went there, my older brother just graduated from there, and my sister and other brother are currently going there.

I have no passion for any team but Baylor, but root for all Big 12 teams when they play out of conference or bowl games.

I root for all Texas teams against out of state opponents.

TCU I was indiffernet toward but they seem to want to be Baylor's rival so i guess i should start to take extra delight in their struggles.:D

I never watched WVU until today, Gino is probably the best QB in the Big 12.

I personally feel that nobody should have to justify why they like a team. I being from the city the team is in doesn't make you any more loyal than other fans. In fact, you can argue it takes a lot more work to be a fan of a team that isn't local bc you have to go out of your way to get your games and news.

Maybe people like a team bc it is the local school, and maybe they like them bc they had a relative or friend play for that school, eitherway why does that make them any less of a fan than someone who went to the school? I grew up in Georgia, watched the Georgia bulldogs my whole life, they didn't offer me a football scholarship but a much smaller school did, does that mean I should give up a team I grew up on bc I didnt go there? I I don't think so personally

nobody really likes the Cubs, they just like Wrigley Field, an excuse to get off early and go get plastered in the outfield bleachers, and the red, white, and blue uniforms. They also loved Harry Carey, but now the announcers are a snoozefest.
