I got feeling were gonna lose Keith Davis. That's gonna make a big hole in our secondary. There not moving Henry to FS. I think we p/u FS-Whitner in the first. And maybe a low $ vet to fill a void if one arises. I see Burnett/Thorton coming on this year. Personally I would love for them to p/u Manny Lawson. With that 4.4 speed of his coming around the end and an even stronger Demarcus Ware coming off the other edge. Makes for strong push from the outside. And w/ Spears, Ellis, Canty, and Fergy, WHERE'S THE QB TO GO? I'd put up w/ his lack of run support for his first season. Anybody remember the first game last year when LT was running left that whole first quarter in San Diego. But look what happened come mid-late season, Ware held up just fine.

What would I like to see....

Winston Justice (RT) USC falls to the Cowboys at 18. (expect him to start by mid season or sooner)
Davin Joseph (OL) Ok falls to them in the 2nd round. (Rivera now has a backup to push him)
Cedric Griffin (DB) Tx in the 3rd. (FS or move Henry)
Dallas trades Romo to NO for the second pick of the 4th rd because Henson is lighting it up, and they have decided he really is the future.
Dallas takes Thomas Howard (OLB) UTEP in the 4th.
Dallas takes Reggie McNeill (QB/WR/Slash) in the 5th. (added offensive dimension)
Dallas takes Dwayne Slay (DB) TT in the 6th special teams and backup Roy.
Dallas takes Josh Huston (K) Ohio St as the kickoff specialist and grooming.

Dallas then signs Arrington with big money, but only a two year contract to allow time for Burnett and Howard to develop.

Dallas signs a vet QB for the SB run.
Dallas signs Coleman to compete with the youngsters and push them at FS.

I was sketchy on Wright as well, but he fills a need.

On paper he fits the backup NT need. In real life, I don't think he is any better than Jay Ratliff in terms of being a swing nose/end in the 3-4. He would be an end, not a nose as far as I am concerned. That's why I wouldn't touch him unless he was just sitting there in the third round. We can get a good enough backup nose in the late round, like that Peko fellow or Cofield from Northwestern.

I'd actually love to get an OG there. If we address the OL I think it needs to be LG and C. I'm willing to give RG one more year before I say it's a wreck.

Even if Rivera rebounds to play in the Pro Bowl again, we need a backup who can take his place within two years. We don't have that. I have given up on Peterman. And I am not sold on Kosier as a starter. If Kosier struggles, we are in deep deep trouble. I would rather have a strong backup plan.

I know our OL choices have been retched lately, but I think we really did a poor job of evaluating. I never liked Peterman or Rogers that much. I do think several of the top guards are better because they can play outside as well (Joesph, Spencer, even Colledge).

Wright has the talent to be a very good player, but I can't see him at NT which is what we need. The NT either has to be a high motor 300 pound guy or a 330 pound immovable object. Wright isn't either of those- more of a 3-4 DE. He certainly wouldn't start ahead of Spears or Canty. I'm looking for starters or potential starters on day 1.

Lawson would give us a great pass rush opposite Ware but like you said he's not good against the run. If we take him in first, I'm thinking we'll use him in most of rookie season as a situational pass rusher with Singleton in there against the run & short yardage & Burnett alternating with both til we figure out what his best position is--he might also backup Ware--depending on how Kalen Thorton plays. Don't know much about Wimbley except he highly regarded so either Lawson or Wimbley might be off the board before we get chance to pick. What happens if both still on the board, but we opt for someone else; that would cause a stir among Cowboy fans. Frankly, am doubtful we will found a partner to trade down & don't want to go so far that we risk losing the players we really interested in. All we can hope for is that one of the teams before us makes an unusual pick causing 1-4 teams below us to try to move up to grab 18th pick. Other teams seem to occasionally get lucky, it's our turn.

They did sign Trey Teague and they could plug him in at center.

I could be wrong but I can't see that. The Jets are rebuilding. Teague got vet min plus a bonus and he would not be as good as Mangold year 1 IMO.

I agree somewhat. I would like Mangold, I just don't think we are ready to give up on Johnson just yet.

I don't either. But remember Johnson is in the last year of his contract. Drafting Joseph, if he is willing to move inside to center, would be insurance on Johnson not being worth resigning after the season.

Joesph could go in the first round simply because he is more versatile than Jean-Gilles. So could Spencer. Both players are experienced at tackle and unless you have a plan to start them, you want versatile backup guards who could also play tackle in a pinch. That's why drafting Peterman is hurting so bad because he has no versatility.

Anything's possible with the draft but that's kind of high for both those guys. Guards tend to slide a little on draft day. Spencer is still a bit of a raw player. Joseph is more real solid than outstanding. I totally agree about the flexibility issue. BP did not seem happy about Peterman being strictly a LG last year year. For his sake I hope he had a monster offseason conditioning wise. If he doesn't beat out Kozier as the starter at LG he could be on the bubble for even making the roster depending on our draft.

I think Watkins in the type who is flying under the radar. Bullocks and Whitner are getting an awful lot of publicity right now and some even think the Steelers might take one of them at the bottom of round one. Daniael Manning might not be a bad alternative in the third round. He can play both S and CB. The question with him is his character.

Good points.

Correct me if I am wrong, but Joesph has played center? I thought he only played tackle and guard.

We also like Chris Chester , who was the Sooners center who also played guard and tackle. Is that who you are referring to?

If we draft a guard, Peterman's days are numbered. It is sad, but probably true. We will only carry so many OL. Remember, we will value versatility on the line because we might have to carry an extra player just to kickoff if Vanderjagt cannot do it. The OL is one place you can save if you have the right players in the mix.

Not as big of a hole as you think. Even if Davis stays, he needs replaced at FS.

Joseph hasn't played center. But I read where a couple teams were asking him about playing there because he's smart, technically sound and has the right build and it got me thinking. It's something he could be groomed for as a pro IMO- we wouldn't need him there for a year min anyway.

Chester is a guy zooming up draft charts, I had him on my list of possible third rounders but he looks like a 2nd round guy now. Not the most physical guy though.

Maybe, maybe not. The OL may well get pared a slot because of the kicker situation. But even if it is, if the OG we draft can play tackle in a pinch that could mean Peterman is battling Columbo for a spot. I think it will depend on how Peterman looks in TC- we'll give a 2nd round pick a fair chance to deliver IMO.

Gurode- Petitti- draft pick- (Peterman or Columbo)
