Well, they are not going to come out before the draft and say they are going to a 2 TE set and need to draft one in the 2nd round. Ireland said last night we drafted the BPA with every pick. In each round it worked out well that was a position the Cowboys wanted to upgrade. JJ said we looked at OL in round 2 but couldn't get into a position to draft one where we thought he should be taken.

I got the distinct feeling it was between Colledge and Fasano (I think they insinutaed that), but we were going TE regardless between the OL player and Fasano.

Or I dreamed all this . . . . it was like 2 a.m. my time! :D

again if we move to a 2 TE set, TE is a "need" *NOT* BPA.

they're doing a double-sell and many seem to just skim over it.
They're not mutually exclusive.

For example,

JJ didn't want to trade out of 18 and lose Carpenter. I think it was Ireland who talked about Lawson. (It may have been JJ, don't remember.) But anyway, they didn't want to move Ware to the other side and felt Carpenter had the skills to play opposite Ware.

JJ stressed that Fasano was here to START. The change in offensive philosophy was similar to changing defensive philosophies. This was NOT a fly by night decision. JJ got the point across that even when BP LEAVES, we are sticking with the 3-4 for some time, as well as this offensive philosophy. There may not be a need for a FB on the roster. (Guess we'll find out.)
.

This is exactly the reason why we haven't won a playoff game in 9 years. The meddlesome owner setting up gameplans and offensive/defensive philosophies.

Maybe he should leave that up to his coaches. Why must JJ INSIST we stay with the 3-4 after BP leaves??? What if the new coach doesn't like it??? Maybe he should let the new coach run it his way.

JJ hasn't won squat without Jimmy's players. It's this type of nonsense which will send this franchise to the grave.

I can tell you why we shouldn't change back and forth (it's obvious), but can you tell me why we can't just hire a 3-4 coach if we need one?

when was the first time we heard of going to a 2 TE set?

for me, after we drafted another TE.

besides, the boys "infallible" management has already said it was BPA, NOT need - so trying to smoke it out as a "need" pick is a bit silly.

Since Bill has been here he has always used the 2 TE in set and he has always said he prefers that as the base that is why we have drafted a TE every year that is why Cambell was signed

Why is anyone suprised

Bill has always liked 2 TE sets, but it was far from our "core philosophy".

yea he drafted two in 1 year Witten and Ryan and how many have we signed and released want to go for 3.

Anyone acting like the 2 TE set is a new offense for this team since Bill has been here or suprised that he wanted another TE makes no sense. This team has used the 2 TE set since Big Bill has arrived including last year. Look for it to be used in a larger% now.

You hate the pick great; but it was not a reach pick.He was drafted about where he was rated in the 2nd round. So you wanted some olinemen or a knucklehead Safety that slid and slid yeay you. That does not make the pick a bad pick. A bad pick is when you darft a guy ranked 88 with the 54 and things like that. So what ever Ice you are just on a vent rampage so have at it.

Now if we where reaching for guys like Dixon (a 6th round talent in the 2nd) or QC a late 3rd-4th round talent in the 2nd I can see all the hate but that has not been the case. We have drafted guys in there respective area of rating and not reaching which tends to leave you with a solid draft vs having guys like Rogers trying to fill a need.

But he always said he prefered it; we just did not have the right players in place to implemented it as often. I just see a bigger% of plays called from that set than years past. We have used it alot in the Red zone area over the years and mixed it quite often in the normal set.

So Big Bill and Jerry didn't find it a need to inform the fans of what they intend to do.

I let it ride coming here yesterday, but I've got to say, this is some of the funniest **** I've read in years! :laugh2:

Dude, I'm agreeing with you. I'm saying a lot of people STILL don't even know we're going to a two TE set.

They sure kept the wraps on this move. I had no idea. I don't think anyone did, especially our crack reporters in the Dallas area.

If it was leaked out, then that could have tipped our hand of what direction we may go in the draft and even Free agency. Good job by Valley Ranch on this one. I think there may be a few more surprises down the road, maybe not until camp, but somewhere.

We're going to a two tight end set and had to have a tight end. Fasano is the perfect description of a need pick so stop running you're heads about how we don't draft for need like the Commanders. Some of you guys are making us look more stupid than Commander fans which I thought was impossible. Fasano may be a great pick but he WAS a need pick.

Hm.... who to believe, Ireland who says he was BPA, Goose whose rankings have him right where we picked him or Jimmy40 who says he is a need pick:laugh2: :laugh1: ..... Hm.......

That was exactly my point.
