Based on a Spagnola column, I think this is Fassel's love child. He believes that he's found a gem and he is going to mine it. There were tuned into Aubrey from last season, his first to kick, because of their connections and were locked in on him this season. It's just his third year to kick as a FG kicker, so he might not can handle it but I believe Fassel believes in him.

I don't mind it in camp. Let him kick the next two weeks. If he doesn't show he can do it, then start looking for a vet during cutdowns.

Mike McCarthy has been stressing that the entire battery of the long-snapper, the holder and the kicker has to be on the same page or it won't work. Not every missed kick in preseason is necessarily the kicker's fault. It could be a bad snap, or a bad hold also. In the Jaguars game, it appears the holder didn't get the ball down correctly. Not sure if that was an error by the holder or by the snapper, but that at least contributed to the missed extra point.

I have a lot of respect for how Fassel coaches STs and gets the most out of his players. Personally, I thought they may have jumped the gun on benching Joseph. But that's debatable given they were in the running for the division. At least Bones was able to get some sort of value for the team from Joseph at gunner.

I think it's a little more than that. This is his handpicked guy based on the column that Spags wrote. Of course, there's hope because he's a player who hasn't proven anything, but it's more hope based on belief based on the evidence at hand than just this is all we've got hope IMO.
